You Guys Have Made Me A Dirt Diggin Addict!

I had to share this with you guys! I got my first machine (an Elite) back in January. I Could not use it until about 3 weeks ago when NY finally thawed. First chance I got I went to an old farm and found a few pieces of clad, a super deep wheatie, and my first IH. Knowing I needed practice, I went to a local town park and "cleaned house". I got about 100 pieces of clad, and 2 rings (cheapos). Now! feeling like "Mel Fisher" I tried a long shot! I went to an old foundation in the backwoods and worked the wagon trail. I was not there a minute when I got a perfect 181 on the meter, and 3" down I pulled up a coin about the size of a silver dollar. It was an 1834 Large Cent. The coin is in very bad condition, BUT WHO CARES! Its 171 yrs old!!!!!!!! Yahoooo! I had no idea what is was until I looked it up in a book.
Now all I want to do is dig in the dirt, I don't want to work anymore, my wife is twisted with me and house work will never get done! Is there THERAPY for detectorists?
This Hobby Is The Best! I needed to "vent". Thank You for listening.

Gene, it's a great feeling when you and your machine "click" and you start making some of those types of finds that get your adrenaline flowing and your heart racing. I remember my first Large Cent...an 1849. It was also my best looking one. The other 4 I've found have been REAL nasty. Yup, this in the GOOD one, believe it or not!

But it really IS a great hobby. The only downside is when you exhaust nearly EVERY good spot within a reasonable radius of where you live. And with machines like the Elite, that won't take too long. Then it's time to hit the road. Fortunately, around here, there's always the beach...a truely self-replenishing hunt spot. I DO hunt all year round and spend a lot of time in the woods and fields, but I live for the summer. HH!

That Large Cent is crystal clear compared to mine. The thought of these coins laying around out there for hundreds of years waiting for us to pick them up is awesome. I guess only another detectorist can understand! You have found some spectacular goodies, congrats!!!!!!!!! I am real new to this, but when I slap those headphones on "LOOK OUT".
Seeing finds like yours and others on this forum is a major incentive. I have to thank You and the others for all your help. I have learned more from you guys than you know. Thanks for sharing!

I know what you meadn! When I put on my hat & sunglasses & headphones, I assume another identity! It's like entering another world and you lose all track of time when you are hitting targets. It's great! Go to the beach and find some nice jewelry for the wife and she'll encourage you to go hunting more and more! HH, Bill

Those are truely some nice finds. Some of my finds have helped buy better and More machines.
Yes like you said, the house work, and other chores
kind of take a back seat once you get the Fever!
Someday you will find a nice Diamond ring and take it home to show your Wife. Sometimes that is all it takes and you will have a hunting partner that will let you keep your coins. Meanwhile she helps you fill up her Jewlrey box!
