We did our first on-site printing event yesterday and although we managed OK our lack of experience made a tough job a lot tougher. We learned a lot yesterday so the next event should be a lot easier. We also identified what additional equipment we will need to speed up the process. The one bright spot in the whole deal was the quality of the 8500 printer. I was amazed at how well the photos came out. More importantly, all of the customers were very, very happy with our photos. But man, I'm gassed. This photo work is a lot a harder than you think. <img src="/metal/html/wink.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=";)">

Yes, it is an experience.
Was it a sports event?
We learned yesterday that outdoor festivals no matter what corporate sponsorship are not good for onsite photos and printing. We were ready for them but it just didn't work. I helped setup everything with "The Team" then had to photograph a wedding. Susan and Michael ditched the photos with the corporate background and went into the crowd photographing and handing out 4x6 cards with info on it as to how to find your photos online.
Anyway, we discussed it last night and we are going for indoor coprorate parties and Bar Mitzvahs.
We also fly out in the morning to Yosemite to photograph a celebrity golf tournament.
How did you print to the 8500? What software, etc?

It was four football games back to back. Almost 8 solid hours of football, 2 hours of setup and take down time, and then another 2 hours putting the photos up on the web site. All in all it was a long day. We used BreezeBrowser to download and create the proof sets and PhotoShop CS to crop and print the photos. We identified several areas to improve upon for our next event. First and foremost is that we are not going to be doing any more outdoor events until we get a suitable shelter. Our little canopy almost blew away several times, the dust ruined a few of the prints and the sunlight made the computer screen almost impossible to see. Above and beyond that we need to add some more printers and computers to speed up the work flow, add more signage and displays, and then figure out how to take credit cards on site. But overall my team (wife and two sons) did a great job considering it was our first time and we really didn't have enough equipment. We have an offer to do an indoor cheerleader/dance competition that sounds like it has some decent potential. The on-site printing wasn't too bad, it was the outdoor part that really made it a tough day. But much like you are doing, we are re-evaluating everything and deciding how to make this thing profitable for us.

I have a wireless visa and mastercard machine.
You may have to invest in some Event Imaging software to improve speed and performance. All the templates are already there and you just drag and drop and the software re-sizes the image to the template then send to print.
I tested out the dual printer system last week here at home just to see if I could make it hang up.
It worked flawlessly. I sent 20 jobs back to back to the printers and it just lined them up and sent it to the next available printer still while shooting photos. Printed 20 8x10 sheets in about 6 minutes.
Event Imaging software is very pricey but it's worth it if you want to be a power user and make alot of prints fast.
