Yo Leslie.... some help with Canadian silver....

I dug a 1943 dime the other day. Sure looks, sounds and feels like silver. I don't have any reference material on Canadian coins and was wondering if you knew when the coinage in Canada was changed? Thanks and nice hunt with the Bardman.

From the land of the Bluenose..here is the run down on Canuck silver

5 cent pieces (fishscales) silver till 1921
10 cent silver till 1966 then some 50% silver in 67 and 68..now none
25 cent same as 10

Hope that helps.

The coin guide we widely use here is the Haxby wgich includes colonial tokens, cirrculating coins as well as paper and numastic coins.

that's the first piece of Canadian silver I've dug. It'll find a place in my book right next to the quarter you sent me!
