Same field Ive searched past 2 days only I was able to get in 3 hours worth of hunting today. $3.29 in clad. Plus some more intereting items. Anyone w/ any ideas on the round brass ring on the right.

That thingy in the bottom center of the lower pic baffles me. I have found 2-3 of those. They look like the end of a chain to put in a button hole ( for a pocket watch) yet there doesnt seem to be a place where the chain was attached?

The piece on the bottom center looks like it may be part of a "Snap Hook", the rest probably corroded away or it just wore out and fell out of the cast housing.

Florida is burning, I will soon have some new MD'ing spots once they clear the lots. I am thinking about offering my services, maybe we can find some valuables that they forgot to remove for the evacuation, even if they were melted it would be better than nothing.

HH, I can dig it!

Thats what it is . Part of a snap hook. The fields I hunt are campsites for an annual event my town has called Mule Days. Between 30 and 40, 000 people attend from all over the East Coast. Most of the horse used hooks are brass like the part I have.

I knew what it was as soon as I looked at it. nice finds. Save the brass and copper. Sell it at the end of the year. Good MD $$$. Junkmetamorphisis as John E. would say.
