Yesterdays water hunt and accumulated crapulance

upnorth

New member
I went about five hours hard core in the water yesterday. It is a small area and the finds already seem to be getting fewer. But then I barely know what I'm doing still, so I'm not that worried. Gold has still eluded me but I'm having fun, and with a little luck maybe a sparkly will show up in the floating basket. I am getting a bit better at using the scoop without seeing the bottom. I have no choice because of the algae bloom anyway, lol. The last pic is accumulated bits that found their way into the trunk over time. They don't mean much but some are interesting to me like that Saudi paper one Riyal found wrapped around a weed. A couple of silvers, old dog tag etc. The rusty scalloped piece was unusual. It says ''Imperial Research Test Car''. I tend to toss a lot of these borderline periferal bits out unless in really good shape, which most of this is not in.

A ring is a ring is a ring, as they say. You are doing pretty well on fishing lures. Keep it up and you will need a bigger tackle box. Sorry about the empty beer bottle. Guess Mud got there ahead of you. Yeah, nice assortment of finds. HH jim tn

Theres gold in there! All the right signs for it! drinking, toys, coins, barrettes, tabs, real old heavy stuff, lots of targets, never been hunted!...yep, theres some gold in there!
I hope I find a full beer tomorrow am to cheer you when you post some big gold out of there...!:beers:...

Yes, A ring its a ring, good hunt :clapping:

Those rings sure are a good adrenaline buzz when sitting among the floating wet gravel. I'm trying hard to be appreciative, and not a suck, but ya, I want at least one water gold this year.

Any tips are well appreciated muddy. I'm kind of running half brained with all this. I am guessing from reading other posts that a gold ring can be anywhere from the 40's to say the 60's or so. But am I looking primarily for that unique mid range signal? I say unique because almost all my water signals are low iron or high tones with some iron chop. I'm running wide open in Pro Zero and three bars down, ground balanced in the water, and most of my water hits seem to be iron grunts 25-30ish, or 70"s-80"s and up. The silver ring the other day was a loud and solid lock signal around 80 or 81 if I remember correctly, not jumpy like a bottle cap. Do gold rings jump a bit or are they a solid lock signal ? I'm not even sure if I'm asking reasonable questions as there are so many variables to consider.

It sure looks like you are working that place right...Its a numbers game in a place like that...depending on the size and circumference and even the K of the ring, for gold, anything from 50-65 really stops me dead..nice solid WHACK!

I generally stay in iron audio off in a place like that with the disc run up to 40...Pro Zero, down a few clicks on sens so I dont get any falsing...so many variables though, I dream of what a gold ring on a silver chain may sound like, and I bet its bottlecappish...a mid sized chain of @15gr will hit in the low 40's maybe jumping into the high 30's, but you will still hear it with iron off and the disc up that high...that place has a lot of trash which may be masking gold or silver, so you should keep doing what you are doing there... You are getting shotgun shells and tabs, which is where a nice big gold ring will be hiding...

I was seriously considering those setting, and I think that I'll give them a whirl. Can't hurt to experiment.

It wont hurt you at all...I hunt a nasty mess like what you are into with great success on the gold...one things for sure, the Pro will NOT miss gold if you get your coil over it...

You can pay for your rig this weekend in a place like that!.

You got a nice variet y great finds there. Gold should come soon. :) That ring looks like a little dremmel polish using a felt wheel would really do it some good.

Your having fun that the main thing .:clapping:

When you hear your first gold tone, you will know it, upnorth. Of course, lots of things sound like gold and some of my gold targets have been faint due to their depth and some have been louder, but from my experience I was pretty sure they were gold. When my At/Pro was brand new and I had used it to find gold a few times, I was hunting in pro zero and no iron discrimination and got into an area near the sea wall at the river and it went nuts. Must have been 6-7 targets and all over the place but I heard the soft little pip sound and dug down pretty deep and found my only 18K ring. It only weight 1.23 grams, but it got my attention. The At/Pro will pick gold or silver out of numerous junk targets and it will be a specific tone and you will recognize it. Good luck and happy hunting. I agree with mud, you're in the right place to find gold.
