Yesterday's park and house hunt

So yesterday I spent some time in Knoxville visiting friends and managed to get out to a park that I've never hunted before. It is one of the oldest in the city, and I figured SOMETHING would come from it - turns out that it was a day of "twos"...ended up finding two Indian cents, two Wheats, two silver items (a Merc and a sterling piece of jewelry), two bullets, and two tokens! I was able to film the majority of what I found, and even recharged the glasses during a short break in hunting.

I was very surprised at finding both Indian cents in 3" or so of dirt or less, but didn't film the entire process with either coin. The first Indian came in around 70-72 while in 12 khz while the second one registered 76-77. I dug plenty of trash that indicated the same way - mostly those were screwcaps and larger pulltabs. Made a mention of the notch settings at the beginning of the hunt that accommodated zinc and Indian cents, but will also pick up some larger aluminum trash.

You never know until you dig it, though; and the video will demonstrate this:

Good Luck and Happy Hunting!

Nice hunt CZ and informative! Now that you've had some time with the Pivotheads, how do you like them? Challenges while filming? Which model are you using?

Beep,

I like the Pivotheads pretty well but I'm still learning things about them. For the first few videos I didn't have the software on my desktop so I couldn't change internal settings, but now I do and it's made a little difference in video quality. I can shoot in 1080i resolution but keep it at 720i for slightly more memory capacity. Yesterday I shot a total of 85 minutes of video, and partially recharged the pivotheads during a McD's break of about 10 minutes.

What I don't like is the "camera discipline" required to keep what you're doing in the middle of the screen. Sometimes you may see the "action" go below the bottom of the screen and this is something I'm still getting used to - just like any other device one has to experiment with and work through the mistakes etc in order to get good quality shots. And sometimes the glasses cause a headache, but I do have a large head while the glasses aren't adjustable in this respect (that I can tell)

I had to edit many of the finds due not having the action centered, and I also forgot about the 3-minute timer (this can be changed in the software) which automatically shuts off while filming to preserve battery life. Some of the deeper and more challenging targets take 5 minutes or more to finally locate, and yesterday I had a good quality video that shut off right before I found the target (the silver cat) which was frustrating.

All in all, I like these and I can work through the little idiosyncrasies...I really want to get a live silver coin(s) dig recorded once day - every time I've found silver recently I haven't filmed it (from signal to AHA!). I want to let everyone hear the "silver tone" in full tones - to me there is a slight difference in the audio when I get over one of these targets, but I've never been able to capture it yet

Taylor nice going on the silver and Indian head pennies.

Thanks CZ--that was the 11" coil right? Do you use the 9" coil at all?

Great hunt and great video. Something to consider in your next video is when you get a good say 72 plus reading target under your coil, have adjacent program with iron vol on and reduced disc to say 5 so folks can maybe see why some of the finds are in fact still there. Might show the iron or another colocated nonferrous. I'll bet that park has been beat to death by other brands of detectors.

That's a good idea I will do this next time I visit that particular park. I still find it hard to believe that those shallow Indians were just so close to the surface - one of those Indians did have some colocated foil if I remember correctly

Thanks for the video. Good stuff...however, I noticed you were sticking your hand in the hole with your Lesche with no gloves....just saying.
