Went back to a partially excavated hut that I left two weeks back. The ground was so hard I it was like being a stone mason. Digging along the ash layer I had exposed I unearthed these relics. My second piece of hard tack from the camp, a little medicine? Paul DeVere & Co Genuine C.V.E. If anybody knows what C.V.E. is please let me know. The two trips that it took to excavate this hut yielded three eagle buttons, fifteen minies, one bottle, percussion caps, suspender buckle, underwear button and grommet (still in chunks of dirt) and hard tack. Man that was hard work. Can't wait till winter.
