Yesterdays Hut Dig

Va Dave

Member
The bottle is E.R. Squibb, I'm told its a medicine. I'm always amazed at the rough condition of hut buttons. Unfortunately the reddish looking one is a Maine State button that was burned in the chimney...a far cry from the one I dug last year with all its gold gilt. Can anyone, Dave@Dixie, identify the lead strips, I have no idea to what these were used for.

Thanks for looking and Good Luck in your Digs'
Dave

I have seen beads made out of strips of raw lead here in Alabama. We found two here that were rolled up and we unrolled one.

I have found 'em that were rolled up but they were on the bank of the river and I assumed that they were made for fishing sinkers, probably hammered out pistol bullets. Also found some that were carved pistol bullets and they were split down the middle for the line to be crimped into. IS your camp located close to a river?...d2

Hey d2,
Not near a river and these strips are very thin and fragile. The amount of lead on one strip couldn't even amount to a 22 cal,if so barely.
Thanks,
Dave
