I was able to try the 6" high frequency coil for the first time yesterday since the weather was nice enough to get out. I decided that although the 6' was a bit small for woods hunting it would be perfect for some tree stands out there. I'm sure most of you already know this but for new users here is a tip. Search the woods for remnants of 2x4 treestands, look for pieces nailed to trees to make steps etc. Through the years I have found several that produced silver strewn along the ground all around the tree. Hunters are always dropping things ffrom above, and they are not climbing down for what would have been pocket change at the time. Anyway, since the stands rotted away and fell long ago all that is left are the goodies and a bunch of nails. I wanted to see how the 6" would handle that environment. I hunt in all metal, all the time. At one stand I began picking up signals in the 30 32 range and they turned out to be fairly modern pennies, I got a nice 42 and thought it was a clad quarter. It was a nice surprise to see a standing liberty in the plug. I guess that the stand dated back a generation or two. I continued hunting the woods and was amazed by the stability of the coil, lack of falsing, and it's ability to lock and pinpoint. If it read 14 it was a shotgun shell end, if it read 18 it was a pull tab every time! No jumping around of numbers with this coil! It was easily finding items at the 7 inch range. I have small to large coils for my Explorer as well as the same for my XLT and I will say this coil is the most stable "This is how it should be" coil I have ever used. If you have an X Terra you have got to get one of these. Happy hunting, and please leave your doors open to warm up the outside so we can get out and hunt in warmth! LOL
