Down through the mid south we detectorists have had to deal with spells of off and on rain and pretty muddy digging conditions most of all last week. Had two day's without rain so was able to get a couple hour hunt in yesterday afternoon before the Bronco's and Chargers game come on. Hit a spot which I knew would at least have some clad and the occasional silver coin once in a while also shows up. Yesterday was one of those "ALSO" hunts.
Was picking off a cent and occasional clad coin here and there when I came upon a spot that appeared to be a coin spill. High and mid tones and numbers jumping between nickel and quarter. Finally got the thing un-raveled with the spill yielding 5 quarters, 4 dimes, 2 nickels and 4 Memorials. All about 3 to 4" deep. Wasn't finding anything else with the Pro pin pointer, so covered the hole back up. Stood up and made one more pass over the spot and got a faint high tone with again, a little bouncy reading in the mid to upper 80's. Figured there might be another clad quarter down there, maybe on edge, and a little deeper. Re-opened the hole and removed a little more dirt and using the pin pointer, located 2 more targets just a little bit deeper. The first one turned out to be the 42 Washington quarter and the second, the 53 Rosie. Both, were a very pleasant surprise, to say the least. I started working my way back to my vehicle and right along a sidewalk dug the thin sterling marked ring. And then the Bronco's won, so all in all, a great day.
Steady rain here now since early this morning. HH jim tn
