Yesterdays Finds....

Hunted 2 older-location park play areas in a large city about 30 miles away yesterday. I figured that they had probably both been hit pretty hard and as I only had 2 hours to hunt, I decided to specialize and use my 6x10 DD to try and pry out any goodies hiding in close to the equipment and also in harder to access areas. Ended up having a good day with an assortment of nice finds. Totals were $1.03 in clad, several pieces of junk jewelry, a ( possibly ) antique copper earring, and 2 pieces of silver. All of the finds, except for a few of the pennies, were made close in, and under, the structures and supports. I was running the Sens at +2-1/2 to +3 and the Disc at around 2-1/2.
The quarter on the right has the "New York" state logo painted over the same design which is stamped onto the back. Date 2001, I've never seen one like it before. It was giving a strange signal. $.25 in one direction and Zinc Penny in the other, having trouble locking firm. I think the steel ring on the right might be an old mood ring with the " mood reader ' part missing.
Top row is the finds of the day. The earring on the left is very heavy solid copper or brass (?) with worn black paint and 16 (again !) stones. VDI was approx 28-32. It has a little green patina on the inside, a bent post and appears, to me, to be pretty old. The silver ring on the right is a band with a simple design on top. I was chasing a phantom penny/dime signal that I could only pull out of the structure interference about every 3rd swing but my MXT let me KNOW that something was there. It took some work but sticking to my guns and sniffing the ring out was very satisfying. The frog in the middle was my last, and maybe best, find. It was a short but solid penny/dime signal at 6 ". Pulled it out "on edge" about 4-5" down. It's heavy, highly polished with beautiful detail and best of all it's silver !
In case you're wondering about the large "S" on the right, that's my first find of the day. It's a paper clip that was already bent into the letter "S". I figured it was a good omen as that's my first initial and I was thinking that was what it stood for. Now I'm thinking it was standing for Silver. It was a good day. Hope you enjoy.

on the strange signal with the quarter, did the hole produce another target? I went ahead and dug a repeatable signal that the vdi never did fix on, Come to find out the same hole produced quarter ,nickel ,2dimes,and a penny that was with the 5.3, the coil was doing it's job in picking the different coins but never did get a full confidence block.

"S"............Super Silver Scott! That's awesome and keep it up. That's soooooooo cool. Thanks for sharing and HH, Nancy

jwilkes, I did scan the spot again and couldn't pick up any more targets. At first I thought maybe the paint had a high amount of zinc or ? in it. ( It was laying painted side up ). The quarter was right at the ' shadow " of interference from the bottom of a metal slide. Now I'm pretty certain that the confused signal was just the machine doing it's best to deal with that. In any case the MXT let me know that somethin different was going on in that spot and when it does that...I dig.

Yes it is and gware12 to answer your question, I love the 6x10... a lot ! I'm pretty new and my preferred hunting spots are less difficult than what many others are doing, i.e. old homes, wooded sites etc, but it is doing better for me than I would have imagined. I was taking all of the rave reviews with a grain of salt but now I would have to agree totally. It has definitely helped me to build confidence with myself and the machine so I will be ready for the challenge of some quality, old sites. Only problem is I haven't been giving my 5.3 as much field time as it deserves cuz I just go to the DD. Oh well, all in due time.
