Yesterday's digs!:garrett:

Ran into tabman yesterday morning on a small hard hunted spot. We hunted around for a little bit until he headed out searching for greener pastures. And, I see he found them. I decided to stay put as I was still finding the occasional cent and clad mostly hunting along the trashier ditch and sidewalk edges with the NEL Sharpshooter coil. 1 of the targets from the ditch turned out to be a 50 premium money token for Red Goose Shoes for boys and girls. Being in the retail shoe business for 44 year's, I did recall the name. Although, upon seeking some info on them last night I found that they ceased production and sales in 1953. So, the token does have some age to it. From along the edges I also managed 3 wheat cents, 1919, 1936 and a 1916d. Near the end of the hunt close to some bushes I got just a faint whisper of a high tone. Very small area and faint with readings of 84-88. Although I had dug a couple of small pieces of deep iron earlier they sounded a little more scratchy so I went after the whisper. From an honest 8" I found the signal to be an extremely well worn no date Standing Liberty quarter. I further suspect it may have been on edge, but can't say for sure as it was in the last handful of dirt I scraped from the hole. For deeper targets, its a slow go! HH jim tn

Jim nice going on the silver. It took some experience to pull another silver from that heavily pounded site. I bet there's plenty more there as well.:)

Wow..thats a pretty eagle on that coin...even as worn as it is..nice score, and deep too!:clapping:

That token is a mighty fine find! And more silver. That quarter design had issues in that the date wore off too quickly.

Way to go! I ALWAYS pay attention to your posts, and I've heard you mention the "whisper" before. I've heard it, but haven't dug one, for whatever the reason at the time was. Now I'm going to have to remember where that was, lol.

What is a NEL Sharpshooter coil? Is that made for the AT? I know by the name it's obviously a smaller coil for trashed up areas. It's the NEL that's got me

1950cupajo, its a after market coil. Go to the NEL coils forum and hit the banner The Gold Digger MEtal Detectors and you can see all the NEL coils. They are a sponsor and sell the coils. They are a little heavier then most stock coils, but seem to be very sturdy and less emi prone and run deep. Although, emi has not been a issue with my A T. HH jim tn

dgruff, don't pass up those "whispers." If they repeat, dig em. Some times they turn out to be a rusty piece of small iron, but more often, something good. And, deeper wheat cents often are a broken whisper. Mostly a high tone, but along with a mid tone click/tiic. Slow is the way to go for hearing them. At least for my old ears. HH jim tn

Nice older token, Jim - haven't seen one of those for a while. Great catch on the SLQ, too. I bet most would have missed it.

Thanks for the tip, Jim! I've heard you mention it briefly before, but couldn't remember where. So these targets don't have a number, just a tone? Man, I've passed up a bunch of them, lol. Bet I don't again! I've also passed up some tones because I'm trying to get back to work from my lunch hour.

Nice post and it shows persistence pays off. With so many new people trying metal detecting these days many could take a lesson from this post.
