I don't think I've ever seen our beach so devoid of targets at this time of year...it's like the middle of winter, where you can go a 1/4 mile without a signal. But as I was telling an out-of-towner tonight...it's sanded in, but there are still a few good finds out there.
I got to the beach at about 3 PM and rollerbladed for an hour and a half. It was awesome and there were MANY fine "Apprentices" on the scene. I hit the beach at about 4:30, for the 6-ish low tide and I hunted for 3 hours, until almost 7:30. I saw Big Rich and a few out-of-towner's, nobody was getting much of anything. I was all over the place, from the water to the top of the high tide line. I found little to nothing in the wet sand. Most of what I got, including the gold, was in the shallow water, in the shell-crush zone.
The total clad count was the worst I've ever seen for the time spent. The chain is 20" and stamped 417, so that would be 10K. What it says is Naj Yah, which after careful consideration, I am taking to be a cutesy way of saying "Nadia", as perhaps one from Russia might say it. Maybe some Russian "Apprentice" was wearing it? Or maybe I'm off track with the Russian thing...open to suggestions.
The religious medal is definitely gold but the stamp was probably on the loop for the chain, which is broken off and missing. But it had that sweet gold sound. And I'm thinking that is Greek, yes??? So anyway, here's the whole nut, the chain and charm, and the medal. I came away happy, because under the circumstances I was lucky to not come home with just the pittance of clad. We REALLY need some "movement" down there!
Happy hunting!
