Got the latest edition of Australian Gold Gem and Treasure magazine in the post today. It finally had a real good write up on the Ace 250 (not that has ever had a bad write up:heh:).
The article was written by Chis Campbell (from page14 to 16). Chris had written in the article that he had been a gold prospector for 25 years, and decided to give coin hunting a go.The Ace 250 was his weapon of choice. he had had it since Feb last year and has already amassed about $5000 in coins and jewellery. There are some pretty cool photos of his finds, including all sorts of foreign coins and jewellery. It's worth a read if you can get hold of the magazine. His very first find was a 1951 florin (silver coin). Not a bad way to start of with a coin machine.

Sounds like he is wringing that 250 out.Best of luck to him on future finds. Where does one find this mag on this side of the pond?

Bill

The e-mail address is magworks@ozemail.com.au

The mag tends to cover gold hunting (about50%). The other 50% covers gem hunting and coin hunting.Sometimes you can get quite a run on coin hunting, and sometimes there is next to nothing.

I spoke with Phil from the Gold mining centre this morning to get a couple of pointers on the Ace250. During the discussion, I learned that the magazine had published the incorrect surname for Chris. His name is Chris Durbridge. The Articles heading "The Garrett Ace 250 - a pocket rocket" Well done Chis I throughly enjoyed the story!:clapping:
Hi Bazz. good to hear from you again.Chris sounds like a really interesting guy to have around and learn from. who knows. we may all meat up some day.

Jack. I think you will love this machine. I've only got 11 hours on it as yet (had it for 2 weeks now) but I'm finding it surprisingly easy too learn. I was getting a bit frustrated with it last week, as I was digging a lot more rubbish than I expected. That was just part of the learning curve. I'm not doing that now, and I even learned a new trick with it last night. Here in Australia, our $1 and $2 coins come in the same range as screw caps. What I learned last night, after digging up a lot of screw caps, was that when you go and pinpoint a target in this range; a coin will give a narrow pinpoint, and a screw cap will give a wider pinpoint.
Also attached the large coil for the first time 2 days ago, and now I can cover twice the amount of ground. It still pinpoints just as easy as the standard coil. One last thing. This detector is very light; even with the large coil attached (I did find that it was a bit heavy for me when I put the coil cover on it though.)Just swing the detector closer to your body than away from it and you will find it to be a well balanced unit!

Hi everyone,
The article in the October Australian Gold, Gem & Treasure magazine was written by Chris Durbridge.
As this is not readily available overseas, I have included six of the photos here. The seventh photo was of a sterling silver bracelet, but as the maximum number of photos allowed is six, I decided this was the photo to not include.
The article with the photos, will be placed on my website at a later date once the next issue comes out.
Hopefully this will help out.
All the best from Down Under.
