Yeller Feller accessories from Sun Ray - anybody interested?

Ralph Sun Ray

We are presently field testing an in-line probe for the Ace 150 & 250 as well as a 12.5" double-d coil. We need to know what interest there is before we go into production. The coil is extremely light in weight and only adds 2 oz (without a coil cover) over the stock elliptical coil - still less than 3 lb total! With the in-line probe the entire detector and large coil only weighs a total of 3.5 lb.

I have been personally field testing the protos in the photo below and they will definitely be part of my own Ace 250 accessories. The large coil definitely increases the Yeller Feller's depth and on a fresh buried quarter it looks like approx. 2.5 - 3" in my moist soil. The ground coverage is greatly increased with the DD coil and works great in areas where there is not a lot of co-located trash targets. The probe, as usual definitely speeds up recovery time and offers the same functions of a coil including visual and audible target ID along with pinpoint function.

If and when released, we will run an introductory special on each item and a combo special if probe & coil are ordered together. Please post your thoughts or interest below this post. Thank you.

Ralph,

I am planning to purchase the 250 in the near future. Just ordered your headphones and am awaiting their arrival. Yes, I would be interested, especially the in-line probe. I am baseing this on the reports I have read about the probes you have for other detectors. Thanks.

Yes, a fresh buried quarter flat in the ground - 12.5" DD against the stock elliptical coil - 2.5" - 3" difference in discrimination mode. In pinpoint mode both coils could pick up the signal with the DD being a stronger signal. In disc the stock coil was silent and the DD gave a good signal with correct target ID. These tests are preliminary and more testing will be done.

As to price, the sug. ret. on the probe will be $179.95 and the sug. ret. on the DD 12.5" coil will be $219.95, the same as other coils and probes which we manufacture. However, we are formulating an introductory special as I stated in my initial post which will reduce the price of each and even more on a combo purchase. We are still working out the details on the special pricing.

Pinpoint probe: The stock coil for the 250 pinpoints like nothing I have ever used before. Will the probe be of benefit with the DD you have built? Or were you thinking of more of an add on to the stock eliptical coil?

Large coil: If you can get the extra depth and still maintain some of the target separation, I am in. As with any DD coil pinpointing would require a 90 degree sweep and looking for the crosshairs on a deep target?

Either way, I don't see how you can lose. There must be a ton of these units out there and, if others are experiencing what I am with my unit. I would jump at the chance to expand on its performance. The large coil would be brililant for beach and post event surface hunting wouldn't it.

Saika,

The in-line probe has many benefits in conjunction with either coil due to its ID ability and depth capability. Targets on edge in the sides of holes, multiple targets in the hole and re-locating targets which have "disappeared" after the hole has been dug which are no longer being picked up by the coil. Double-d coils can be hard to pinpoint with for user's who are used to pinpointing with concentric coils. The probe will come in handy there also. X-ing the target as you describe is the correct procedure for pinpointing with a double-d. However, in testing this coil it was very fast on shallow or subsurface targets to just find the target in the center bar of the coil and then switch to probe and run the tip of the probe along that "imaginary " line until the target was heard. To further "bulls eye" the exact location of the target I merely pushed and held in the pinpoint button on the detector and listened for the sharpest, loudest pitch in a quick, short four way motion of the probe tip and "bingo" it was dead center under the probe tip. You can also watch the little pinpoint bars on the LCD display of the detector and do the above procedure for a dual pinpointing indication. This procedure was also very handy in the hole for pinpointing deeper targets.

As for target separation, this double-d coil is quite good at that even though it is a 12.5" coil, however a smaller coil will always separate targets better in multiple target and trashy areas and would be the preferred coil in those situations.

Sounds interesting.

I just got the ACE 250 and really like it.

Thing I would wonder however...is whether or not using the accessories would void the 2 year warranty?

Do tell.

Tim

Tim,

To my knowledge none of our accessories have ever voided the warranty on a metal detector and we have been manufacturing detector accessories since 1994. However, it will only take for you to call Garrett to find out.

Don,

The electronics are not the same for the 1350 as they are for the other probes we make. However, we are doing R&D on one for the 1350. I don't have any further info on it at this time. Thank you for your interest.

i might be willing to buy the probe, what im really looking for is a probe for my gtp1350. as soon as you make one ill buy that.
