Year End Summary

Well-known member
Most of my hunting for 2024 was done in the Dakotas. A few additional hunts were in Minnesota and toward the end of the year in Iowa.
My XP Deus II machines were used to pull all the finds shown.
Everything was pulled at public sites except a few coins that were found at my Parent's farm and a nearby field site.
Below are my better finds for 2024.

Thanks to everyone who followed my posts during the year and took an interest in this great hobby! I really appreciate it.
Dave

FANTASTIC haul of silver !!! Love them Walkers !!! Im basically a beach hunter, so love seeing those old silvers. Salt water isn't kind to silver coins. When found,
they are black and pitted. Especially disheartening when you find big silver. You've got some real beauties this year. Congrats on a successful year !!!

You had an outstanding year Dave and I enjoyed looking at your finds through the year…everything all together is even more impressive!!
In the photo showing some tokens and such, there is a disc with a star in it… I cannot make out the writing on it, but I found one similar to it at an old school a few months ago.
I’m guessing it has some age to it, but not sure how old it is…any ideas?

The quality and the quantity of you finds are truly amazing. Congrats on great year and best of luck in 25. Mark

Nice finds Dave it’s a lot of work to find all that silver do you ever sell any? I cashed in my pennies from 6 years ago over 6000 and sold 6lbs of beach silver almost $2500.00 to a friend so I could buy a new outboard which gets me farther up river without worries.
I keep my nice old silver coins and halves but no reason for me to save the beach silver it’s ugly lol
Mark

Thanks Donna! I appreciate you looking.

thanks. I have found a few of those old amusement star tokens over the years. I always thought they were probably 1920s-1930s.
Some are more personalized than others and have names. I took a 2nd look at this one yesterday and the ending numbers are 1913 so it's possible that could be the year.

thanks Mark. Nice. Sounds like you will be setup good for water/beach detecting with a new motor.
In 22 years of detecting, I have never sold any item. I have returned and given a few away though.

The one I found is a good luck token.
I tried researching the name on it, but did not find anything…
I think this one is not nearly as old as what you have found.

I did some quick research on these tokens as I was curious. The ones like your design appeared to be made as 'amusement arcade tokens' in the 50s and 60s.
I found some real similar examples of my classic star shaped interior token in the 1930s so that design is a little older.

OH yeah, that beach silver is nasty. When silver hits $50/oz I might just cash it in too. But not my Morgan dollars !!! Ive only found a few and they came from the ocean. Actually one was found up in the dry sand and in fine condition. It actually had black freckles. Thinking it was washed up during hurricane Sandy as part of a collection that washed out of a house ???
Anyway, silver from the ground is pretty. Just dont understand why it doesnt tarnish ????

I have found quite a few silver coins that were very tarnished to the point I could not tell off the bat they were silver.
Most did clean up nice though, but not all.. some are heavily pitted.
