YAHOOO!!!!! My v3 scored me a pocket watch case!!!

I found it around 4" down and it overloaded me 3 times and I almost walked away. I am so happy I didnt. I thought it was a crushed coke can and it said that it was 0" deep and I was walking away and I thought to myself I might as well clean up the trash...:detecting:

I tried my pinpointer to see if it was right on the surface and I got no response so I figured better clean it up so I dont find it again. I was using my own coin and jewelry program that is optimized to this ground, but honestly any program would have found it.

I was so frustrated after digging a upholstery staple again that I almost didnt dig, I am going to have to get used to digging all decent targets. I had just found a snuff box that read like a quarter, and had a gold wash to it, around 20ft away.

I have to go back and find the other half or the watch fob. This was found right along an old stagecoach road. I found pictures from 1916 and they showed where the road went and I saw a homestead in the picture with the stage coach stop so I did some research and found the exact location. To cool, I love this hobby :clapping:

It is sterling with a gold wash and it pegged the 2.5hz and the vdi was 92 and sometimes wrapping...!!! I thought those signals were junk before. This is by far my nicest one piece find.

That is one nice find..........love those overloads..............

It has a stamp in the inside it says "IHP" Or "THP". It is almost 2.5" across....:clapping:

I am on cloud 9... The case is rough on the glass side and there is no glass or lid. It is not complete. It wont run again while I own it. But it will be a memento of days gone by and a recovered treasure...:bouncy:

.

Excellent find! I know you are glad you decided to dig. Isn't it great when you kinda expect it to be trash and it turns out to be something really good! :clapping:

I spent the last 5 hrs looking for the front lid..... Whew I am beat.... I was on overdrive hoping to uncover more of it. I dug up 2 more large caliber rimfire cartridges, approx .35 cal and a .45 rimfire. Both at a respectable 6-7". I found a horse charm made out of copper at about 6", it is no bigger than a nickel and paper thin. I found a copper matchbook case at 7", it is in nice shape and could be used. It is for jacketed matches.

I get so much falsing with the d2 coil. I have to keep it running hot to get the depth out of it. The small hardened steel nails love to give me a 90vdi...:ranting:

I need to go ahead and spend the money and buy an SEF coil maybe the 10x12 or the 15x12. I guess the new ones are designed for the v3, at least the Kelly co website says so.

Thanks for all the encouragement guys, we do it for the fun.:clapping:

Good luck in finding that other part! If you do find it, send me a PM (I may have working guts for it). I'll have to scrounge through old inventory.... but good chance.

Wow, it's finds like that that make it all worth while. Way to go on the research!

Great example of research, effort, and reward. I too find the overloads sometimes something I walk away from..but my curiousity always gets the best of me. I dig..it and the cans are a definite disapointment. But.. as in your case that overload just might be a post hole bank. or a buried cache, or... the biggest gold nugget you've ever seen. (I'll let you all add your own version of fantasy finds)

I have spent around 5 hours hunting in the same area ever expanding hoping to find the bezel. The watch was originally fronted in glass. I might as well give up on finding the bezel. I will however keep searching in the area. I have pulled a couple more interesting things out now. The watch cleaned up awesome with a little baking soda a tooth brush and my hands.

The silver dollar is for scale, I did not find it.

Hey I saw a a find like your watch on another sight had the hole like that under the lid they said they thought it was a pocket watch too but a dealer said it was really a snuff box there was never watch guts inside

That makes a lot of sense to me.............:clapping: Welcome to the forum wingizzmo.

Well the dealer might have known what he was talking about and he might not have. What I did not show on this forum is the picture to the other side. There are mounting locations for the crystal and the front cover. So in this case it is a watch case.

Welcome to the forum.:detecting:

cool find either way just thought I would let you know just in case congrads
