XTerra's turning off.........

What ever happened with the problems of the Xterra's turning themselves off and on? Did they ever find the problem with them? I just sent my Xterra 50 in for the same problem. They told me they are going to replace it(which is great) but I never got an answer to the real cause of it. They really never even acknowledged they have a problem. Definitly can't complain about the service because they did address it for me and are going to send me out a new one,but I still am curious as to the cause. Does anyone have an answer?

My understanding is that they had a batch of PC boards with some cold (bad) solder joints. That will definitely ruin your day.

Robo do you know what serial #s the problem batch was put into or better yet what was the Serial # of your detector you sent back to them. Thanks Jerry aka Tinfoil

The detectors have an 'on/off' button. The only time one of them should come on or turn off is when the button is activated. PERIOD! If some of these detectors are comming on or going off on their own, then Minelab has a problem that needs to be addressed and I'm sure they will. If you are having this problem then you SHOULD contact Minelab. They are a fine business and good to deal with. I'm sure they will fix the problem. I do not mean to step on any toes here and it is not my intention to make anyone mad or upset but that is the only way that this problem can be seen or fixed. No one wants to be out of a detector for a couple of weeks, but sometimes things do break and need to be repaired. The gentleman asked a question and I think this is the best answer for him.

I think what James said is right. It just business. Anyway my xt30 turned off by itself yesterday. I didn't realise it at first as I was digging up a pull tab and waving the soil atop my coil. Nothing. So I looked and sure enough it was off. I turned it back on and a few minutes later it went off. After pulling my 2500 nm batteries out that showed full charge I put them back in. While the batteries were out I noticed that the ends of the batteries and battery contacts on the detector were very shinny and slick. So i tapped on the right side if my detector close to the batteries making sure to juggle the batteries and sure enough it went off again as i watched. So i felt the batteries were really barely making contact and when it momentarally lost power it turned off. I took the batteries out and rubbed the ends with my dirty fingers to roughen them up and put them back in. After reinstalling them and tapping again i could not get it to turn off. It may be a fluke. You just might give it a try. But i can assure you if it now turns itself off i will return it asap.
