Xterra's "Achilles heel"

I was just thinking that as much as I love my XTerra 70, the one thing that is starting to get under my skin and I think may ultimately be the Achilles heel for the Xterra series is the fact that you cannot buy aftermarket coils for them. With the popularity of the SEF butterfly coils and accelerator coils, I would love to have the option to try them on my Xterra 70 but Minelab apparently refuses to allow that to happen for some reason. There must be too much information in the chip that is housed in the coils for the Xterra series. It is a slap in the face for me to see that I can buy these coils now for my Ace 250 but not my Xterra. I'm still going to stay with Minelab because I still beleive they are the best machine for me but the proprietary approach to coil selection is now a thorn in my side. Just venting, I guess. :ranting:

Yea, kinda stinks, the next natural progression is for them to update the 10.5DD coils with a "Pro" Coil like they did on the Explorer SE. We can only hope after the dust settles and the backorders are overwith that they will get on with developing new products.........MO

I agree 100%, it is maddening. Give the bloody chip up for a usage fee as it would only increase X-Terra sales and make us even more happy. I WOULD love to have a SEF butterfly coil(12x15" or 15x18") for my X-70. Or a CoilTek 15" WOT or Sunray coil. But I do not want an Excellerator coil. Now SEF coils are available for the F75 and T2 and have been for the MXT and BBS-FBS units for some time. I wish Minelab would make about a 9" to 12"x18" Pro DD coil for the X-Terras. I hunt areas where trash is sparse at homestead-farmers fields and the bush so I need big coils a lot of the time. That is why I bought a new WOT for my Musky this year.

I also was thinking about buying an F75, MXT, or E-Trac so I could get a big SEF coil. I fact that is what is stopping me from buying a new X-705 is this coil issue. I really like my X-70 machine and its the V-Flex but if the coil situation does not change soon my next machine will not be an X-705 but instead a new F75 or E-Trac. IF a bigger coil is made available for the X-Terras then I would buy an X-705 instead.
