Xterra 705 versus 70 question

D&P-OR

Well-known member
I'm curious enough to ask this.--I see the listing of the differences of features etc. in these two detectors, so that's not my question.---My question is: (drum roll please)--you experienced guys that have used the 70 & now had a little time to use the new 705.--What do you see as the most effective (important) changes to improve performance & benefit you that the 705 has over the 70?--I'm talking about increased performance (benefits) in the only area that really matters (when you cut to the chase)---in the field & under actual hunt conditions (although we all agree that hunt conditions can and do vary widely).--But let's say "apples for apples" hunt conditions for you with those two detectors.---To put it another way, do you think it was worth it to you to purchase the 705 (after owning the 70)--and why?----I'm an old Ex/Etrac guy and yes, I do have a Xterra 705 comeing.--Two of them (one for the wife & one for me)-we think they are really neat little detectors.---I'm not EVER giveing up my Etrac though! You guys are a neat bunch over here on this forum!------Take care, Del

Not enough difference on the X-705 for me to upgrade from my X-70. I can do without these if I have to:
--3 yr Warranty
--Back Light
--One(1) extra Pattern
--Sizing Pinpoint
--Ground Balance Tracking Offset -15 to +15 (On Manual GB machines sometimes the GB was purposely balanced towards the positive. Meaning an increase in volume on the downward pump.)
--(I would like to know if there is any other improvement on the Ground Balance system besides the Tracking Offset?????)

BUT if I was buying new like you I would get a X-705 over a X-70 of course.

Also I would like to know from a person like you Del, who owns both an E-Trac and X-70(5) about a comparison between the two units?? (I suppose it is too early to tell?)

On the E-Trac and Explorer, I heard on the 2 number Conductive and Ferrous system it is not much use in real world conditions because the exact same COIN being on edge, at an angle, bent, corroded, wore, etc. will give a different sets of numbers on that exact same coin. It is not perfect conditions, ground, and a new coin all of the time. The E-Trac and Explorer 2 number system is very precise-exact and not forgiving like the 28 segment system on the X-70(5).

I agree not enough differences to make me upgrade? If I was buying new it would be a no brainer, 705 for sure, Beale.

I'm with David and Beale...I'll stick with my X-70. If it by chance my X-70 should "give up the ghost" then I would replace it with the X-705. TomB

I agree with TomB. I'm not about to upgrade my X-Terra 70.... but I'd certainly replace it with an X-Terra 705 if something happened to it. Though the benefits are just a few, the resulting 705 has a slight edge over the 70. Not enough to make me upgrade though.
