Xterra 705 or Teknetics G2

Not looking to start a brand war here, just looking for some honest and straightforward feedback from any of you who might happen to own and use both the Minelab Xterra 705 and Teknetics G2 for relic hunting around old farm, home, school and church sites.

I would be interested to know what you found favorable with each of these fine machines for this type of detecting and if one detector gets used significantly more, why so?

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Best regards,

Keith

shouldve asked this in the general detecting forum your going to get biased answers posting on a detector specific forum

I will try to help if you haven't made a decision. I presently own both machines along with a F75 and a CTX 3030.
Things I like about the G2. Light weight super fast response to targets. You can swing this detector fast. Several folks say that setting it up in all metal makes it deeper. When using the G2 I am not as concerned about super depth as I am picking through the iron. The depth is fine for the hunting I am doing with it. I set it up in disc mode and set the iron disc to 30-35 so I can hear the iron. They say that the G2 is a two tone detector but I actually think it had three tone low for iron mid high for good target and a super high squeal that most of the time turns out to be large iron. This detector certainly has a place in my arsenal for relic hunting camp sites with lots of iron.

The 705 I have the 10.5 mid frequency coil on it since the day I bought it. I set this up in two tone all metal with ground tracking. This I use in more open field hunting where the iron is not as thick. This set up is a relic magnet especially on deep targets. I have dug civil war bullets at 13 inches and have witnessed two buddies dig bullets at 15-17 inches with it using the same set up. The response from the 705 is a bit slower than the G2 but with it I am looking for depth. I really like both machines but if it came to one I would choose the 705 and add coils such as the 6" HF coil or the 10x5 HF coil along with the 10.5 MF coil. Those should cover about any detecting conditions that you would get into.
