XTERRA 705 GOLD PACK PROSPECTING SETTINGS!!!

earthfindings

New member
Hi

I am detecting in Zimbabwe and i am newby . I was very happy to purchase my first detector xterra 705 GP after being advised that its the best entry level machine. For obvious reasons I am into prospecting which basically means I have to use the prospecting mode. Can someone help me with the best prospecting settings especially in relation to sensitivity and threshold. I have searched on youtube for videos that might help and only found Kevin Hoagland video about xterra 70.
Thanks for your help.

The 705 prospecting mode is very basic.
The settings are determined by the ground mineralisation and the size and depth of the gold you are looking for.
If you purchased the detector second hand then I suggest that you do a Factory Reset first.

Other than that; switch on and select prospecting mode. Set Sensitivity at approx 24 and Threshold where you can just hear the threshold tone. Set Target volume at around 24 or at a max level that is tolerable in both headphones and from the speaker..Set the Iron mask at around 5. Too high an Iron mask level will cause the detector to not respond to very small gold nuggets. Ground balance in tracking, auto or manual.
If mineralisation is high then you may have to readjust the sensitivity down a bit. Either way, set the sensitivity to where the detector threshold is not so jittery that small gold signals could be missed.

If you run ground balance in tracking then it is possible to track out weak gold signals.
Use the double d coil, it will achieve better ground balance than the round concentric.
The 705 is hot on small gold . I wish you good luck.
