Xterra 705 coils

I'm new to the 705. Had Sovereigns and last had a Safari Loved them all But because of age and back I needed something lighter.I hunt beaches wet and dry sand.I have 5x10 DD 18.75 coil and 9' 7.5 coil. I would like to know which is best. Thanx tincan302 Ft Pierce FL.

For the most part the high frequency coils are better suited for salt water beaches. There can be exceptions but I'd say you are best off with the 5x10 on the "Treasure Coast" where you live.

705 is great I. Dry sand but bad in wet sand on salt beaches.

I'm 58 and dry sand beach hunt with the 705/ HF DD Elliptical coil 3 or 4 times a week. I usually MD 3 to 4 hours in the mornings and still can make a good days work afterwards. The Elliptical is the lightest coil and for me is effortless to swing for hours. Not sure what HF coil you have, but either one of the coils you listed would be fine on the beach, but the HF is better for small gold.
I do not use the 705 in the wet sand...tried it, don't like it! Might just be my area, but I have never seen another MDer using a 705 in the wet or for that matter on the dry either. For the wet and water I use a Xcal or Duel Field. You also need to carry a scoop if your going to hunt the wet which can add to less time MDing and ground covered. This is why I like a MD just for dry sand, no scoop is needed.
Your Sov would have been a better all round machine, dry & wet, if you chest or hip mount and used a straight shaft. That would of greatly lightened up your back and arm fatigue.

The best DD coil for prospecting for gold nuggets, 10"x5" or 6" 18.5kHz?
Any suggestion will be appreciated.
Cheers

Think of it like coin hunting in trash--I think the smaller coil would be better in trashy areas and for depth---it will isolate targets better in between trash

The eliptical will have more target hits because of its longer shape and that can be confusing...

I am going from gold hunting with PI machines Minelabs---but the same should hold true of basic coil funtion-----

You dont always want to use a DD either, if the ground will let you , you a concentric

IMO

I would also add that a smaller coil will be more sensitive to smaller gold. The 6" HF DD will hit on sirface pickers as small as .02g in Prospector Mode.
