xterra 70

hi gang. i have just baught the wife an xterra 70 for christmas, as her sov. xs2a pro was getting heavy for her, and its got me thing about one for myself, so here goes.
we dont do enough detecting to justify having a spare machine, so would you keep a sov. elite and hip mount it or go for anouther xt 70. tough choice, but what would you do. all the best. steve in wigan uk.

Personally, having had 2 Sov's and an Excalibur, I'd go for the X70. It's far more sensitive to small/low conductive targets, has a more sophisticated disc., lighter, better on batteries, and can be swung faster. Of course, you're asking on the XTerra forum, so such a response is to be expected, but I'd have said the same regardless of the forum and have essentially done so on other forums. ..Willy.

Heck I think the Sov. is a great machine but it is heavy and many do well with either unit so your call and good luck on your choice....

I have used them both, have a 50 and 70 xterra units, and still can't answer your question. My SOV with the solid white coinsearch coil was awsome.
Once found canadian very small 5 cent (If I remember right) coin at a solid 11 inches. It was Silver and dated 1899............I have never found anything deeper than 8-9 inches of value with either Xterra. The xterra are for sure lighter, seem to work very well and I maybe just haven't gone over a deeper target...In conclusion..The xterras do well, are lighter, and find good depth items. The SOV uses 17 frequencys and does go very deep..but...kills your arm and shoulder with the weight..Good Luck......I am waiting for an Xterra with all three, or more frequencys built in the electronics of the machine...I think Minelab can do it.

I think the secret to getting major depth (at least in bad ground like mine) is to get one of the large round DD coils and crank 'er up! A lot of people ignore, or forget, that the BBS/FBS detectors come, stock, with DD coils. In anything but mild ground, this gives them a big depth advantage. It also really helps in the seperation department. ..Willy.

I contemplated the Sovereign but I found the weight a little too much to be convenient. Hip mounting is a good solution though.
The X-Terra 70 should have been a welcome relief considering how much lighter it is. You might want to check the other Forum threads to see what Sovereign users would suggest. They may have some suggestions that will help you decide.

/Comfort is a big issue when it comes to enjoying my own interests.

As luck would have it that Canadian 5 cent piece I found..someone just posted a find like it on Explorer forum. It's pictured right next to a Merc..You can see how small it is. They called it half dime..Check it out.

Take the new x-70 for yourself ... and buy her a garret ace 250 ....

She probably likes yellow better anyway.

LOL
