xterra 70 vsF-75

My detecting partner has a Fisher F-75 & I have an xterra 70. Whenever we go out, he finds 3 times the stuff i do. Is the F-75 that much better of a machine or am I doing something wrong ?

How long have you had your X-70? I ask the same of his machine. It could be that he has just really learned his very well?

What mode does he use vs you? Is he running all metal, are you? Just really some more info needed. Are you coinshooting with the X-70?

I really do not think the Fisher F-75 is 3x the machine, IMO, Beale.

If he is consistently finding three times as much with his F75 as you are with your X-70, then you are either doing something wrong or not doing something right. (there is a difference between those two) Keep in mind that there is a lot more to finding goodies than simply swinging the detector. You need to know how to set it up for the specific site, how to hunt that site, and when you swing the coil, understand what the audio tones and visual display are telling you. And that goes for ANY detector. Not just the X-70.

Not trying to be a smarta$$. But there is one simple test to help you figure out the problem........You use the F75 and let your hunting partner use the X-Terra. My guess is that he will still find three times as much as you do. Maybe even more, once he has the X-Terra in his hands. And when he does, will you think the X-70 is three times better than the F75? Randy

You know Randy, That sounds like logical reasoning to me.

That makes sense. You have to know your machine, but I was also thinking perhaps it was the frequency of the coil.

I swing an F-75 myself, but am looking at an XT-70 as a third machine (I have an MXT too) and am curious as to whether the frequency idea is valid as well. What do you think?

without knowing what "stuff" the other guy is finding. Frequency does matter, as far as sensitivity to given targets. Lower frequencies are better suited for higher conductive targets such as copper and silver. Higher frequencies are better suited for lower conductive targets such as gold. The MXT is 14 kHz. The F75 is 13 kHz. Depending on which coil he is using on his X-Terra, it could be 3 kHz, 7.5 kHz or 18.75 kHz. But again, without knowing what "stuff" the other guy is finding, who knows? And honestly, the difference in coil response between the range of 3 kHz to 18.75 kHz (including 7.5, 13 and 14 khz), is minimal for most US coins or "park targets". make sure you noise cancel when you set up and his machine is on. maybe his machine is interferring with yours?
