Xterra 70 to find placer gold?

KurtB

Member
Heading to the Back Hills in a couple of weeks to do some prospecting on some GPAA claims. Most along streams. I have heard of people using metal detectors for finding good spots for digging. Are they finding black sand and hoping that the gold is there or are they actually detecting the gold? I am neither a professional detectorist or a professional prospector. Just trying to increase my chances of finding a little while I'm there. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Kurt

I am not a prospector but Yes to both questions. That is my plan too. The DD coils are what you want for a lot of the Gold hunting. They each appear to react differently to different sizes and depths. But generaly speaking the HF coils are the best for gold. With the MF DD, it has been said that it will hit nuggets in tailings piles deeper than the HF coils. Something like the 1 to 2 oz range. Handles the mineralizaton well.
