Xterra 70 Questions

nevada

New member
Hi thanks to all for response to my previous post.I had read some information that the Minelab Xterra series has had problems with the detector not working because some batteries were to short and not connecting properly causing the machine to turn off has anyone experienced this? Also would like to know what headphones work best with the Xterra 70.What is a fair price to pay for the Xterra 70 Pro Package?Has anyone had any other problems where they had to send in for repairs? Thanks.

John

My xterra 70 shuts off like that. I didnt know it was the batteries, I have been using rayovacs, what kind should I use to avoid this problem?

What could have happened is that you transported the detector, laying on it's side, with the battery door facing up. If so, it is possible that your batteries bouncing up and down (over time) could have taken some of the tension out of the springs. This weakened connection could result in the detector shutting off on occassion. If yours is cutting out, and you have a steady hand, you could try to pull up a tiny little bit on the battery springs. It is up to you...... you can stretch the springs a bit (as I did) or sent it in to Minelab to have it repaired. If you decide to put a little tension on those springs, make sure you hold the end connected to the detector secure before pulling up on the other end. I used a small wooden rod to hold down the end, and put a bit of pressure on them with a pair of electronics needle nose. Be gentle as it don't take much pressure. If you decide to send it in, Minelab will likely replace those springs with a new set that is more robust. JMHO HH Randy

Hi Nevada
Open the battery compartment and very carefully bend the metal lugs out. This will tighten these lugs making better contact with the batteries. I use Ever ready Lithium batteries. The cost is $20.00 Au for 4, I tested them once and they lasted for about 6 days of continual use. The terras are excellent on battery drain and they last for ages.

Hey Randy...thanks for puttion photo up...its nice to connect a face with a name. TomB

Bending the connectors slightly does work, I had the same problem with the 50 and the 70. I bent the connector just a little and haven't had a problem since.
