xterra 70 on pennies

Hello,
As with others I am just learning the xterra 70. It hates to find the newer pennies. With the high coil they read 32 but one has to work to get a consistant signal out of them.I am sure it is an operator error but haven't located what I am doing wrong yet.
Quarters-42
Sacajwea dollar-42
are all goood solid signals except the cheap new pennies.
Any thoughts?

I hate clad pennies. I rate them up there with pull tabs and bottle caps.

If the x-terra ingnores zincs then that is just another factor in its favor in my opinion.

How is it on solid copper pennies?

also read almost identical to the modern zinc cent. Given good conditions, only the newer, pre-zinc Lincoln's read higher (those from the early/mid-20's thru 1981 and some 1982.

Challenging ground environment and/or masking targets can affect ALL TID readings so you have to make sure you understand what responses you're getting from a particular site before you put trust in the display readings. It doesn't matter what make or model detector you're using.
