xterra 70 in shallow water

I've been reading the "beach and water detecting" forum and I'm intrigued by the volume of treasures people seem to uncover in wading - depth water. The xterra 70 with stock standard coil is supposed to be waterproof up to the level of the control box. Does anyone have experience detecting in the shallows with this machine? I've been detecting for 4 weeks, so am very new to the game. With my initial attempts at detecting in the wet sand ( havent tried the water ) I had a lot of problems pinpointing the target, so I have pretty much given up on the wet areas and concentrated on the dry sand while I learn how the machine works.I've been very happy with my finds so far but I would still like to master the wet. So should I persevere, or is this just the wrong machine to be using in wet sand and water? Are there any tricks to using this machine in these areas? Would love to hear your comments, Cheers

I suggest starting in the FAQFAQ. All of the info you need is there including settings and how to pinpoint in wet sand.

I've used mine in shallow water with the stock coil and had no problems.
