Xterra 70/First time out

Elton

New member
:clapping:Hi All! took my Xt70 out for the first time today.
No earth shattering find,But it's where I took it that impressed me.
Went to school I have hunted with Fisher CZ's, Whites XLT, Cortes,
and a few other machines I have owned or tried out. Last time out found
nothing with Whites. The XT70 found token,Wheat pennies,One Siver dime, and some whatca ma call it's ( good guess what they are) at 6 to
8 inches deep.Auto ground, tracking, sens at 22.Stable hunting and good depth. I am happy and will try again soon. Just thought I would share.
Like I said no big deal, but when you consider this was a hunted out
site for the other macines.
THANKS FOR READING!!!!

Always good to find silver. (not to mention the other finds) Especially in sites that we have already "hunted out". HH Randy

I have only had my 70 for a few weeks now. Like you I went to a school yard I have hunted many times before with my XLT and figured it was about done producing. Proved me wrong as well, in the last couple weeks now I have found a little over $18 worth of change, a few more wheaties today and still climbing. I just think of it as my "getting to know my machine piece of ground", and it is a great feeling to make any finds there at all. Not to mention, it is really close to me. The weather has be so nasty here and looking forward to hunting some new sites really soon. Also looking at joining a local detector club to add to the fun. Great job and really glad you are getting a chance to see what you have been missing. There is a wealth of information here and some really wonderful people as well. Keep us informed and...Good luck!

As a ex XLT user I can tell you that you will find more wheaties with the X 70, as well as nickels. The X 70 is a super machine, and has even sniffed out items that my Explorer missed in certain locations.

Not sure we ever find them all anyway. I am doing wonderful with the 10.5 DD, now just can't seem to figure out the 3khz coil. It seems like it is so sensitive to iron that it gives a lot of false, one way signals. But with more time I will, I am sure it is a good coil....just haven't seen it yet. The adjustment are easier to understand and that means a lot to me. That XLT just took my patients to the end. Sold it and never looked back.

I tried the 3 kHz in an are that was producing large cents, injuns, some silver including a couple 1/2 Reales. There also was a fair amount of iron. The 3 kHz coil was screaming, the iron was enough to make hunting that area with that coil almost impossible. I just never used it again and stuck with the 7.5 DD. Could be I should have tried it in other areas.

Ed, those one way signals with the 3 kHz coils are a good thing. In areas that I have used my 3 kHz coil, then retraced my steps with the two higher frequencies, the iron signals were even more pronounced. So much so that deciphering them, and finally realizing they were deep iron, would have taken much longer than with the 3 kHz. I use those tones to my advantage when hunting those types of sites. In multiple side by side comparisons with the low freq and higher freq coils, I have found that the 3 kHz is not as sensitive to ferrous targets as 18.75 or even the 7.5. JMHO. HH Randy

Unbearable is the word for sure. I got so many tones with every swing it as a bite to recheck ever signal. I did manage to find a few things but was more trouble than it was worth. Someone mentioned that the 3kHz coil needed to be ground balanced in the beach mode to work properly. I have yet to try that. I honest think for relic hunting it would be great, but in a modern park....not so sure.

Thank you all for the great inspiration !! I will keep you posted.
Please excuse the post above. I am learning.

and when I do, I take one of my other detectors with a small coil. HH Randy
