Xterra 70 compared to Sovereign and Explorer?

I have been wanting to choose between all these detectors and wanted to know some input on the x70 maybe compared to these other two detectors. I have owned an Explorer and a Sovereign and they are awesome and powerful but how well does the x70 perform?

You can swing the coil faster with the 70 as it only has one freq it uses so it don't have to analyze as much as the Sovereigns or the Explorers do. The X-Terras are a great detector and do well, but it is not Sovereign or Explorer as to me they have a better ID plus better depth for us than the X-Terras.
I think a lot depends on you type of detecting as which one to get, I have all 3 and my Explorer and Sovereign get used more as i like to hunt the parks and ballfields others feel are worked out. They are all 3 good and you cant go wrong with any one of these.

Hi!

The speed is the result of using different signal filtration setup, not how many frequencies one uses.. That's the main advantage over Explorer or Sovereign because you'll cover more ground faster with X70 which statistically means that you'll recover more targets :)
X70 is really deep and powerful machine and the only time when Explore will better it is at the beach or other highly mineralised ground, when multi-frequency technology excels. Weight, balance, ergonomics, features, all favour X70 over Explorer or Sovereign.

I use my GT Sovereign at the beach when I want to hunt the wet and dry sand at the same time because I don't have to mess with the settings.

If I was only going to hunt the dry and concentrate on finding jewelry items, I may go with X-70 with my 5 x 10 DD coil on it.

In parks I use the X-70 almost exclusively because I want to "Cherry Pick" what I dig. During the summer I hunt the beaches 98% of the time and the parks 2%. When the smaller coil comes out, it will probably replace the 5 x 10 coil at the park.

If I could only have one detector, it would be the GT with my Patriot meter and S-1 probe setup. I build my own straight rods so I have plenty of different rods and coils all set to go. I hip-mount my Sov control box always, so, it is just a matter of disconnecting the coil wire and grabbing a different rod and away I go!

Come on Minelab, hurry up with that smaller coil, I only have another good month of hunting the beach! I need that coil for the parks until we get (if we get) some storms to erode the beaches a bit.

I intend to keep both my GT & the X-70. I even have an older Sov XS as a backup to my GT. My relatives like using it too.

If you want to cherry pick or hunt clad then the X-70 does a great job I will agree, but when you want depth and pick coins out of trashy area and good ID then the Explorer or the Sovereign is the one that will do the job.
In a old park that is still used to day where you have both new and older coins that is deeper by the end of the day you will have more coins with the X-70, but more silver, Wheaties and IH with the Explorer or Sovereign as we have proven over and over again. I don't consider our ground to be very mineralized where we hunt and we find the Sovereigns and the Explorer work best for the deeper coins that have been missed for years.
