XTerra 50

I thought I posted this ealier but dont look like I did.

I am seriouslly thinking of gettin one of these,started off wanting a Ace 250,F2,then a Vaquero,F4,MXT,GTP 1350.

But the XT 50 is really appealing to me,mainly for the feature for the price.

I have called several dealers and only one has mentioned that it comes with a free extra coil ( I think a 4.5'' was said).

Is that something the dealer is doing or Minelab?

The others could throw in one at an extra cost, though.
I thought he said it came with a bag, diggin tool, headphones and the extra coil for just a tad over $500.

Just wanted to see how some of you feel about the 50.

Decided I need a new one after I took my Whites 5000D GEB out yesterday(havent used it 5-6 years) and quit after 5 minutes cuz it weighs about 5 pounds and started killin my wrist.
Also noticed that when in DISC. mode it would not pick up a nickle, even at the lowest setting.

The X-Terra 50 is a darned good detector for coin shooters and relic hunters alike. Prospectors would likely find the features of the X-70 to be more "favorable" to their hunting requirements. And beach hunters may opt for the Beach Mode of the X-70. But for coin shooting, relic hunting and all-around enjoyment, the X-50 offers the same basic functionality as the X-70. All three models fo the X-Terra offer excellent depth of detection, great separation characteristics and are very sensitive to small targets. The X-50 offers 2 adjustible Patterns of (3-digit) notch discrimination, provides 4 tone audio response, adjustible GB, NC, Sensitivity, an all metal hunt mode, etc. etc. etc. If you haven't taken a look at the operator's manual and compared the features of the three models, you can view them from a link in the FAQFAQ section located at the top of these forum posts. There are also some field test reports, TID information and general THing information in that section. You can also do a search of the X-50 in this forum and read posts made specifically about that model. And, you are always welcome to ask your questions (and voice your comments) via a post.

As to the coil you mentioned..... Minelab does not make a 4.5-inch coil for the X-Terra. They currently manufacture a 6-inch DD coil at 18.75 kHz, a 6-inch concentric at 7.5 kHz, a 9-inch (stock) concentric at 7.5 kHz, a 9-inch concentric at 18.75 kHz, a 9-inch concentric at 3 kHz, a 10.5-inch DD at 7.5 kHz, a 10.5-inch DD at 18.75 kHz and a 5 X 10 Elliptical DD at 18.75 kHz. All of these coils will work with your X-50 EXCEPT the 3 kHz coil(s). The X-Terra 30 will only accept the 7.5 kHz coils.

Although you will find most dealers playing in the same ballpark, as far as price goes. You will also see that many of them offer different "packages" with their detectors. My advice to you is to shop around and buy from a dealer who is reputable and offers the "package" you need at the price you want. The first folks I would contact would be those dealers who sponsor this forum. Afterall, without their support of the forum, we wouldn't be having this conversation!

Keep us posted on your quest for that new detector. HH Randy

Too late,I ordered a XTerra 50 yesterday. It should arrive on Friday, they two day free shipping.:clapping:

He said it was a 6.5'',but I dont know,I dont see it listed. He said it comes in the box.It could be the 6''.
I dont know if it come with batteries, but I will some on hand just in case.
Now I just got to figure out a way to play with it some and then wrap it for Christmas without my wife knowing
I done played with it.:argue:

I called one of the sponsors, but he was out of every new detector, some fishers would be in maybe Friday but the Minelabs not till after Christmas. But he said the 50 is what he uses as a personal detector and loves it.He said he has been from TN - FL and has had no problems with it working in any soil he has been in.
I think it will last me for a while before I outgrow it.If ever I do,hand it down to my son.
