Just started using x terra 50. Wy does this machine not pick up a quarter at four inches, without three or four sweeps over the coin? If i didn,t know the coin was burried, I, would walk over it. This should never happen. It isn,t me my whites spectrum picks it up before i get the coil over the target. Not a novice been detecting 46 yrs. any ideas on this detector?

The X-50 should "pick up" a quarter at 10-inches, if operating properly. If it doesn't, you either have some adjustments "out of whack" or the machine is simply not working properly. I noticed you said you just started using the X-50. As such, if you give us a bit more information as to how you are setting up your X-Terra (NC, GB, Sens, Vol, coil choice etc) , and how you are sweeping the coil (speed, overlapping etc), someone might be able to help you out. HH Randy

P.S. From One of Our More Experienced X-Terra Users:

"If I hadn't mentioned it before, the procedure I suggest for those, who are somewhat new to the X-Terra, is to turn on the detector. Chose the All Metal Mode. Hold the coil at waist level & properly set the Noise Cancel. Lower the sensitivity to single digit. Set the threshold to a level that is just barely audible. Properly set the GB and then raise the sensitivity back up as high as you can (when sweeping over clean ground) without falsing. You can hunt with whatever level of discrimination you want but I always suggest setting up the detector in the AM Mode. Until you can differentiate the threshold tone from the fluctuating GB tones, increase the sensitivity after you set the proper GB."

the xterras are a quarter eating mach. had the x70 and was great on quarters and got the 305 now and just two hunts this week had pull in over 88 quarters ground bal. is a very big key and is easy to keep a check on nnd sens. if there all are set somethings got to be wrong with mach . these things bangs hard an deep on quarters
