OK, let's see if I can get this across without feeling like you've gotten off of one of those high tech roller coasters.
A. Yes if you are using it(X70) in high mineral content or rapidly changing ground. For the following reasons:
1. The X30 is a fixed GB & the X70 adjustable.
2. The X70 has Ground Tracking which will adjust automatically to ground that varies.
3. The X70 has a saltwater GB mode for beach situations.
4. The X70 has a stability mode to give greater target ID confidence in rough ground.
B. Other adjustments affecting depth:
1. The X70 has much higher sensitivity resolution settings allowing it to be brought to the brink of instability.
2. The X70 has a threshold you can monitor for very weak targets.
3. The X70 has noise cancel which includes an auto-mode that searches for the quietest setting.
4. Notching, the X70 has finer notching resolution by far, meaning you have less chance of notching out goodies.
C. Coils...What are you searching for?
1. The X30 accepts the 7.5KHz coils only.
2. If looking for low conductors, brass, lead, gold the X70 can be fitted with the HF coils which are very sensitive to low conductors.
3. Likewise the X70 accepts the LF coil for searching for large deep objects and high conductors. I've personally found they ignore surface foil quite well, allowing a look through capability to see coins beneath the foil. The LF will also do better in highly mineralised ground as far as depth.
And then well there's the Prospecting Mode, which by the way can be used with the MF & LF coils, not just the HF coils for gold hunting. It is deeper than the Coin/Relic mode by a couple of inches on average.
So the question is are you in an area where you can utilize the features to your advantage? If not then and X50 is worth a look or another X30, just so you don't have to tussle over it.
I'm sure I missed something, but don't worry, someone will probably be along shortly to point it out.
