XT70 box not weatherproof?

Doug[Manila]

New member
Used it in the rain the other day and got some moisture forming inside the digital readout. I thought it was rain proof? Also had the slip on cover on it. Anyway I left it out to dry and its okay now.
Thought you guys would like to know.

It is not water resistant either I think.

Wonder when they are going to make a nitrogen purged detector.

Or are some of the underwatermachines nitrogen purged?

You can get nitrogen purged binoculars for 200 dollars or less.

Item 2, in part.....the control box is not waterproof. Although it has been designed to be weather resistant, it is advisable to protect the control box in wet conditions.

I always carry a few sandwich baggies which slip over the control box and this will keep out water and most of the dirt. It also protects the screen from scratches. You can buy a thousand of these baggies for what a cover costs from Minelab and they go on a lot easier than the factory cover does.

A trick I use on my XT 50 is cut a piece of plastic lunch wrap, it sticks firmly to the body & screen so no dirty paw prints on the face

Hey Doug you shouldn`t be out in a typhoon LOL, I was thinking maybe being in the tropics and with a cover over the box you have a condensation problem rather than a water leak??

Hi Kris, you may be right i did use it in the rain and put it in the bag right after. I discovered the moisture the following day I took it out to hunt. Just let it out to dry and it is back to normal.
