XT-70 help

This question is related to the VC0 when pinpointing..Just have the unit a short time and thought thats how it worked..Well I watched the video and his unit had VCO like I am used to from XLT and CZ...I can't talk to the tech till tomorrow night as they are 3 hrs behind Pa. time and will be out later and will talk to him tomorrow but in the meantime any input will be appreciated if anyone had a similiar problem. Personally think it a bad coil from the factory new..Get VCO at about 1/4 inch and all else seems to work but that is intermitent and never know when you push the pinpoint button..and of course depth is poor...Any opinions appreciated and any quick fix as downtime is going to kill me..Thanks, Dan

The Pinpoint in Standard C & T mode is VCO........BUT.....it is an Auto-Adjusting Gain type. Once you push the button and begin to swing the coil back & forth, it will turn down the gain automatically, which makes the target seem smaller & smaller with each swing. If you turn the Pinpoint on while over a target it will use that initial signal level as a starting point and turn down the gain from there with each swing.

It is therefore imperative that when you push Pinpoint button that you have the coil within a couple inches of the ground and over a target free area. It can be reset to a new level by exiting & re-entering Pinpoint.
Practice with a coin on the surface over clean ground and you will get the hang of it.

You can also go into Prospecting mode and use that as a Pinpoint, which is what many do in a target filled area since it will not begin Auto-Adjusting the Gain.

This unit has zero VCO...and is either a coil or internal problem..Pinpointed many targets with many machines over the years,,,Certainly appreciate your input..Dan

I'd try a Factory Reset, page 44 of the manual. Also check in Prospecting mode to see how it's acting.

Bill thanks again for your input as did all the resets with no help. I know there is a way to reboot an XLT and GTA perhap one way for an X-terra...This baby has VCO 1/4 inch from the coil so would think may have got a faulty coil right out of the box..Will talk to Minelab tech later today as that when they are available amd here in Pa. 3 hrs ahead of Minelab U.S.A. time..Used just about every detector on the planet and of course this is a new one and with the depth and stability it gets looks like a winner.
I understand all VCO systems are different but watching the Video in FAQ know my units faulty for sure and a tip of the hat for FAQ as its a wealth of info and every X-terra owner should read..
