XS verses the Explorer II.

Okay fellows..............I need your opinions as to whether or not the Explorer II can really out perform the XS, or is there really not that much difference in both the machines. I have heard from a source that head to head that the XS did better than the Explorer II where the Explorer II said the ferrous content was iron and the XS proved different as the outcome proved to be coins and not iron. I hate to spend that much money on the Explorer II if the end results are not that much better than with the XS that I have. Thanks for any input on this. HH.

Sorry I can't really help out as I have not tried the EX II....
I have been using the XS for over two years and have no need to go buy the EXII if this one is doing what I expected ???
GOOD LUCK ........ I'm sure some-one will chime in with a great BIG explaination between the two.

Eddie,

They fixed some of the problems that quickly became evident with the XS; such as 1/8 jack breaking, different lower rod, and others. Software added dual number system for digital and some other minor stuff. People who have used both generally report no difference in detecting abilities.

My original XS is 5 and half years old, only went back to the factory in the first year to replace the cracked housing that was prevalant on them. I have seen no decline in my finds using the XS, doubt a new XSII would have found more for me......Save your money.....

Very nice finds there Don.........:) I have to agree with you that my XS has been pretty good to me as well and to spend that kind of money on a new machine for a part time detectorist would be kind of foolish at this time. Thanks for the advice. HH.

I thought that the XS only had one number in digital where the EX II
has two numbers. Perhaps this is not correct? Since I am a digital hunter - two numbers makes a big difference in my book.

I was just saying that the digital screen that ocean likes to use has another set of numbers! That's all! I guess some people like to hunt in digital and if so it's more information for them without haveing to change screens.

It is absolutely true Ocean7. Allowing the user to see both the conductivity and the ferrous content of any one target, provides the user with another very important layer of information which allows the user to see the difference in properties of two targets with the same conductivity. For example "is it a ring or a pulltab?" Depending on the ferrous content of either, one can see that there is a difference.

The XS is still an awesome detector. I don't believe anyone disputes that. The EXP II builds on that platform, strengthens the mechanical short comings of the XS, and adds new software and electronics, making the "best of the best" considerably better. When I spend hours upon hours researching a site, then drive, some times several hundred miles to get there, and then spend even more hours hunting the area, I want to have the "best of the best" detector in my hands to provide me with the highest of odds for success.
