XS going crazy

When ever I turn on my XS it goes crazy. The screen looks normal but it emmits random tones like you are passing the coil over several targets at once. Even if you hold the coil still it does it. I have tried the noise button and several locations with no difference. Is there anything I should try before I send it out??? Very disappointing for a unit that is about a month old. Also anyone had a good experience with a repair shop? Thanks and HH

A couple of thoughts, listed in ease of doing...
Keep the power button depressed when your turn it on. After like 15 seconds I believe this resets the unit.
Pop the batteries out and try turning on. Then pop the batteries back in.
Remove the coil and inspect the cabling and ensure that the cord is intact. Put it back together and test.
Remove the coil cover and clean. Maybe something has gotten between the coil and coil cover.
If you have been using nothing but the rechargable pack, try a set of alkalines. Perhaps the battery pack is the problem.
These are just some suggestions, I hope one works for you.

Sam,
Whats the sensitivity set at?? is it in manual or semi auto?? I have had this happen and found out that if the sensitivity is too high or in auto it will do this at some places.
Like Tim was saying do a reset too and see what happens and clean the loopcover out.

What do you mean "several locations"? Several locations at the same place or several locations in different parts of town? What you are describing sounds like electrical interference. If there is a power source near where you were at, that will happen. Also if you are near any military transmitters, they will stupify your Ex. Someplaces I just can not hunt at no matter how many times I hit noise cancel. If this is not the problem, then try Rick and Tim's suggestions. But, on what Tim was saying, I think that you are supposed to have the detector on and pull the battery pack with it turned on, this resets the detector. Holding the power button on till it says factory presets is different than pulling the battery with the power on.

besides the other stuff try another coil if you have one, if you have an X1 probe take it off and try it without it.. also it acts that way sometimes when water gets into the coil cable connections.. if you have been out in the rain take it apart and let it dry out a while.. If I hunt in heavy rain the cover keeps the control box dry but the X! probe switch generally gets wet and the unit starts sttuttering and also certain coils seem to false more in the wet conditions

Try changing your sensitivity mode.. Sometimes this happens when I am in manual mode.. When I switch to auto mode.. the chattering goes away..
Good Luck... Jim Vokes NY

After trying to mess with the settings to tone it down nothing seemed to work. So I reset the unit by holding down the power button and it seems to have cleared up the problem. I put all of my settings back just the way they were and it seems fine. Whew!!! I wonder what the deal was. Anyway Thanks again everyone!!!! HH
