<img src="/metal/html/confused.gif" border=0 width=15 height=22 alt=":?"> How would a XS fair up in a hunt ????
Would it do better as far as (Noise cancel)and finding a clear freq to detect on or will it be a not so good Idea ?????and use the ol reliable???(old school)

I will say this. The Mine Lab XS is not my machine of choice, for a few reasons. I love my Explorer II but it's much to heavy to swing at big competion hunt. One. it causes causes allot of interference with all the other brands of detectors. People will stay away from you, and give you mean looks. The draw back is you can't go as fast with a heavy machine. I have seen this first hand at competition hunts. Your arm will get tired fast. I wouldn't recomend it, but if its your only option It will work.

I understand that other detectors will "HEAR" each other or talk to each other but is'nt that part of the game ??? at a hunt ???
If I go with a inferior detector won't I pick up other detectors and move away from them ??? I don't think i would look at them and give'm a dirty look.
I also under stand it is a bit heavy but I'm used to the weight after swinging it over a year now.
So would I use a Radio shack detector cuz it is lite ???
I"M CONFUUUUUUUSED

Now I have been at hunts where some have used the Explorers and they too will crosstalk, so many will move away instead of trying to noise cancel them out as it takes too long. The Explorers seem to do OK though, but the detectors that seem to work the best and seem to find more are the Troy Shadows and some of the Tesoro as they have a freq switch so when you do get some crosstalk you can just switch the toggle switch to a differnt freq with you finger.
The whole idea of a hunt is to get as many signals by swinging the coil fast and beable to pinpoint and recover fast. A light weight detector that has fast recovery and can pinpoint fast have been the ones that work the best.

It like hunting rabbits with a cannon...Personally the old Fisher 1235X was one of the best and of course the shadow and tesoro's perform well also. Remember you are not after depth, just a fast machine that pinpoints quick. As far as keeping people away from you the old red bounty hunter big bud pro was the best as it drove everyones machine crazy...

I only hunted with mine once and got based on the number of planted coins and hunters, I got twice the average. I used the 10" but believe it or not I would use a WOT next time, especially if I could see the holes that planted the coins. Then I could dig up the coin without pinpointing.
Frequency crosstalk was not an issue during my hunt. I was scared of it but almost always kept a threshold.
Don't believe that the Explorer is not fast enough. If it's shallow it gets nailed. The only issue is whether your arm can take it. Yes my arm got sore, but not too bad.
Everything is not close to the top either. Near the end of the hunt when everyone else was giving up, I would find several coins that got tipped on edge by someone with a detector that got less depth. The X-1 probe would get these. After the hunts were over I got 25 more that were missed.

PullTabby,
For my club hunts (avg 15 people) I used my XS and 8" coil. Lots of room to swing and just for fun.
For big hunts (50+ folks) I bought a used tesoro silver sabre 2 (light and fast) The guys who seem to clean up at the comps Ive been to have light machines and fast recovery skills. Do a google serch for competition detectors and Troy and Tesoro will pop right up!
You'll get your fair share with the minelab, but a lighter machine may result in more competition finds.
