XS 2a pro: Would you recommend this?

I have a chance to grab one that is in nearly new condition at a good price...Only used 8 hours or so.

It has the BBS coil and a meter.

Any thoughts?

The Sovereigns have basically been the same even though newer models were put out. The coils are interchangeable between the models. The meters got better when they went to 180. I would grab it in a minute.

never liked the drop in battery pack on them and those older bbs coils are pretty heavy.

depends on how cheaply you can get it I would say. I prefer the Elite or GT of the Sovs.

The price is a big factor and has been left out of the equation so we don't know if its a good deal or not.The drop in battery pack is a bad setup but is easy to convert to a plug in.The BBS coil isn't going to add any value and the 550 meter very little increase worth.IMHO a good deal 275-325 fair 325-350 break even 375,and over 400 not a good deal.

Lets just say it is at the good end of "good deal" :clapping:

Ron has the price figured out perty close to what I would price it at. Just sold a nice XS2a with a SunRay DTI2 meter and S-1 probe with the battery conversion to a plug in with a new 2600 Mha battery for $450 and felt I gave a good deal.
If you do get a Sovereign and never had one before have some patience with it as the first few times you may have your doubts, but once you know it you will see why many of us swear by the Sovereigns and have the finds to prove how well it will work.

id go for the Elite or GT as some of the parts for the older ones are a bit hard to find.and the battery system is way better on the newer ones.

I still have my XS2a pro that I've had for about 10 years now. I have the Sunray 180 meter, the S-5" Intruder coil, and 12" Sunray coil along with the 8" coil that came with it, a Sunray rehcargeable NiMH battery pack, the Sunray Q-12 Econo charger, the Sunray S-1 Super Target probe, and I'm never going to part with them. I still have the original meter and the original battery and battery charger, just in case. When my deck was built back in 2004, it was finished during a rainy week and the workers spilled a lot of nails all over the place. I cherry-picked about 140 out of the ground because a bunch were left exposed in the dirt. Using the probe and all-metal mode, it made this extremely tedious job not as bad as I thought it was going to be. I sold my Tesoro Silver Sabre and gave my two old White's away.
