XP Deus vs. Tesoro

homebre

Member
Have any members used both the XP Deus and one of the top of the line Tesoros such as the Vaquero, Tejon, Deleon? Wonder what your opinions are? Thanks,
Homebre

I haven't personally used the xp-deus , but a friend of mine has used both . His opinion is that the xp-deus is basically the same as various of the 2-filter Tesoros. Ie.: good at target separation and see-through, yet not a depth -demon . Nor adept at minerals , wet salt , etc ...

I have Deus and Vaquero. Deus I use all the time because of the programmable and wireless features.

I have an old football field bleachers (tore down long ago) that is blanketed in iron and non-ferrous trash.
I gridded with the Vaquero and found around 20 silver dimes.
I worked the same area with the Deus this year. Found 20+ silver dimes and 2 silver quarters.

I like the Deus far better than the Vaquero, but if the Deus breaks down, I will go back to the Vaquero while it's being repaired.

Interesting report. Question for you then : since you say that this comparative zone was below torn-out-bleachers, then were you knocking out foil and tabs? (in your quest for silver) ?

There was some arena grandstands in my city , circa 1920s to 1940s (various additions along the way). They finally tore them out in the mid 1990s. Because the grandstands was hard-pan soil. So you CAN BET it was a field day bonananza for silver ! However, the foil and tabs were an OCEAN of continuous signal. Doh! And the time-frame for hunting it was just a few days (before the bulldozers dug deeper, and it was all hauled away). So in that precious few nights, we cranked up the disc, and went to town digging silver and copper. But simply could not "be a hero" trying to get the nickels.

How would you say the xp-deus would have done in that cherry-picking sort of situation? better or the same as your tesoro ? I mean, is it just as adept (or superior) in iron disc, or also in a cherry-picking sort of situation I describe too ?

Thanks. Which are the 2-filter Tesoros--the Tejon and the DeLeon? I have the Vaq. and wondering how much better the XP was for the money. I use wireless phones with my Vaq.

I'll have to let someone else answer all those questions. Sorry 'bout that :) The particular Tesoro 2-filters I had in mind, when answering the question, is the Silver Sabre, and the Shadow x2. But not sure about the rest of the Tesoro lineup. And as for how ANY of them stack up to the XP "for the money", I've stated as much as I've heard there.

Tom, I think the difference with the Deus (and I was knocking out foil, pull tabs and nickels), was the fact that I could set tones for the high conductors plus switch frequency to see how the target responded.
With the Tesoro, I only have one tone and disc setting. I used a 10x5 DD coil on the Tesoro so it may not have been as deep as the Deus, but all the coins I dug were in range of both.

I believe there are more coins in the area but I have to remove some of the trash that blankets the area.

I cannot discount the effect of seasonal freeze/thaw and ground moles. One mercury dime was within 2 " of the surface with no trash nearby.
There was no way I would have missed it with the Vaquero so I think it was exposed by seasonal changes in the soil.

The Deus is uncanny at detecting high conductors under iron that would normally be masked to my other detectors. I really like the Deus because it's so versatile.
Not a salt water detector, but otherwise it does well in almost every environment.

thanx !
