xp deus verse racer 2 on nails test with silver coin

I bought a racer2 to put in my aresenal after seeing some videos with it doing super things. Its a solid performer one of the best ive seen ,but I have saw some comments saying its better in trash than the deus. There are a few reasons that its not ,one you will see in this video and second is the audio I find the deus audio to be superior to the makro racer 2 audio in the way that it glides thourgh the iron in full tones.

Couple of things, nobody hunts swing as fast as you are when testing the Deus. The Racer 2 you swing much closer to an actual hunting speed but still mighty fast. You should at least swing them at an actual hunt speed and both at the same speed. I'd sure like to see the same test with the 5" or OOR coil on the Racer. I know you're trying to compare the two using close to equal size coils, so why not test them at the same (realistic) swing speed. When I'm hunting in that kind of iron infestation, I'm going to use the smallest coil size available. 9" Deus and 5" Makro.
Thanks
Tom

Couple things to note the racer would do well with a 5 inch coil but like said coil for coil is what I was trying to show. Another thing I see people try to test or USE the deus and use a slow swing speed it doesnt work well with a higher reactivity setting. The Deus reacts BETTER with a confident swing speed over targets, slow it down and signal fades the higher reactivity setting the more confident swing speed you need .It doesnt have to be a mad man swing but it has to be confident . The racer lost the test period im not trying to bash the machine or make it look bad, I tested it over the coin off camara too it is what it is. The racer is a 700 machine a good one too but it doesnt outperform the deus on seperation (its close) nor on depth and it shouldnt the deus cost more. I do hunt with a confident swing speed I dont granny swing the deus(reactivity of 2 I never set it lower) so yes the swing speed is what I use most of the time of course there were parts of the videos where I was swinging it real fast that was just to show it could still see it. Some will disagree about the swing speed but a quick test will prove what im saying ,set the reactivity on 4 and swing over a dime at granny speed and then try a more confident swing speed the dime will come to life with the more confident swing speed. 0-1 reactivity requires slower swing speeds but the higher you go the more confident it needs to be. The deus expert traing videos also speak of the confident swing speed the deus needs to perform.

I think with the way you can program the deus, it is going to be my number machine for a long time. It just feels right having just enough to play with. I like to tinker and the deus lets me do that. Where I hunt, you just never know what the ground is going to be like. But the racer is a very nice machine for those that can't understand the deus. If your not a deus fan get the racer. I really do enjoy both machines and don't feel I'm missing anything in the ground. And we have that nice small coil for bad iron. I would do your test with that coil also that is what I use for bad iron it just takes a lot of time to cover any ground..a labor of love

Great conversation guys. I've hunted with guys using each of these machines. And IMHO, the racer was doing better. I suppose the user of the Deus wasn't perhaps versed enough into it ? But for the Racer, I was impressed that the guy using it was suddenly nearly doubling his conductive target count in tough ghost-townsy conditions. Also saw that it did very well on the wet salt beach.

My experience has been while the Racer 2 is a great detector, the Deus is better in most cases.

I prefer to swing as fast as I can and still get a reliable signal. You cover more ground with less loss. I don't get the hunting time I used to so I need to make it count. Swinging as fast covers more ground and which in tern increases your odds.

Just for the record, I own and use a Racer 2. But I am on the lookout for a Deus for spring.

I suppose ghost towny = super irony and yes if the person wasnt WELL versed with the deus that would have played a major part. You have to have the deus set up correctly for those conditions but it could have just been one of those days when the other guy just had the better day it happens all the time with my hunting partner on the same sites he cleans house or I clean house ,we are both using the same machine and programs on the same sight and same day it just happens that way sometimes. The racer is a great machine no doubt but the deus has the edge on it.Just the adjustability of the deus is top notch frequency change at the touch of a button, recovery speed, ergonomics is better imo, deus depth is better too, with being said a buyer just has to decide what he wants out of a machine. Im just not a fan of super tiny coil I own the nel snake coil for the makro and I know it would work well but I still dont like using such a small coil but I do have a few applications it would work very well in. I took the deus to the wet sand too at mrytle and for a vlf detector it did well too but if I was gonna beach hunt alot ,there are better options out there for that. imo

Thats how I hunt too southwind, when I bought the ctx and had to slow down to granny speed (oh yeah and the ctx doesnt like freshly plowed ground) and saw my partner flying around the field covering ground and pulling confederate buttons) it went on the auction block not long after . The deus is a machine that will hit a target with a confident swing no doubt.

Calabash-digger, I've never seen a deus used on the beach. But regarding the fellow I took to a back-pocket ghost-townsy site, with his Deus, here's what went down:

This is an adobe site (our west coast version of the east coast 'cellar hole' ). The site dates from the 1830s to the 1860s, and entertained passerby travelers on a route between 2 of the old CA missions (this was an adobe from a land grant rancho). In the past, this site has given up about 10 seateds (1840s to 1860s), 5 or 6 Spanish reales, and POUNDS of cool relics (phoenix buttons, gilt buttons, etc...). Needless to say, all the 4-star signals have LONG since been pounded out. But there's an area of what had essentially been the front yard, that is about 30 ft. x 40 ft. of tons of iron. So as time went on, the only signals left to harvest, were trying to un-mask stuff hiding in this area. Hence to this day, it's my "go-to" place to try out new machines.

At the site, I flagged signals for the guy with the Deus to try. I was using an Explorer II, and another friend was there with a Minelab 305 with HF small coil. After flagging multiple signals for the Deus guy, he sat there fiddling with ALL SORTS of settings to try to "bring them in". So as you can see, it wasn't a case of counting end targets at the end of the day. It was a case of flagged target comparing.

And yes, I suppose someone could say that .... despite his trying 10 different settings, there was an 11th that would have done it. That's possible. But then later, I brought the friend who is now sporting a Racer to the same site. And he pulled a nice phoenix button from there. Again, the same counter proposals could be offered: Perhaps he "just got lucky" and passed his coil over "just the right spot" ? Who knows ? I just know that the friend with the Racer has gone through multiple machine trials in the best and most challenging of hunt conditions. And whereas I used to spank him on target counts, he immediately jumped to even when he got the Racer.

I understand completey what you saying but realize this just because someone goes in and fiddles with the deus doesnt mean they KNOW what their doing. The reason I doubt the guy knew what he was doing with the machine is because in my testing that has not been the case at all. I showed tnsharpshooter over on the other forum the test video I made because hes very proficent with both machines he said once you have to raise the deus reactivity to 3 or 4 ,thats where the racer is a no go on a target with a swing speed involved. Alot of people think the deus is tinkering machine its not ,I have 4 custom programs that cover all my hunting needs for relics I might have to change a setting for a site here and there, gb, frequency if emi is the case. I understand you saw a guy with a deus and he couldnt make the machine hit the premarked targets and that lefted a bad impression on you but that would not have been the case in the hands of a skilled user. I will go as far to say he didnt have the reactivity set high enough (recovery speed) he had the silencer setting to high which will knock out iffy targets (masked ones) and could have been a few other things too. Another clue that the guy didnt know how to use the machine is you found the targets with minelabs and in the hands of a skilled user the deus will blister those machines in iron ,so thats really the tell all for me on his capabilites as a deus user. Its not the 11th that would have done it either he needed to go back to school and do a little more studying on the machine. I loaned my racer to a friend when I get it back I will shoot some more videos of test with it. Do you think your minelabs would hit that silver dime I used in the test with the 2 nails with a normal sweep speed? btw im not a minelab expert I have owned the ctx for a short while and tested it, with that being said my friends have used them for years the 705,etrac, explorer etc . I said that to say this ive been around people who are skilled with those machines and I have showed them the deus in action in iron and trash and they have never seen anything like it. 2 of them now on a deus for that reason, not bashing minelabs best coinshooting machine but not the best in iron for relics . thanks and hh One more thing im not bashing the racer its a great detector ,I was just kinda responding to the comment it does better than the deus so I figured I would put those statements to task. The racer is a simple machine anyone can basically turn it on and find stuff great performer, but is it on the same level as the deus ? If it was you can believe this my deus would be for sale and not my makro racer 2, I will use whatever works best and gives me the edge to find relics. btw that test I conducted does show the racer not being able to see the target, according to what your saying it should have been the other way around with the deus blind to it. I know as humans we form opinions quick ,trucks cars, fishing rods detectors etc, something was a miss with your friend that should be pretty clear from the test I did in the video.

Interesting how easy it is to say a lack of performance is attributable to a persons lack of experience with the Deus but it's necessary , for your test to be valid , that it be assumed you are competent with the Racer , which was an issue with the CTX as well when you found similar short comings with it compared to the Deus.

Nonetheless , two important points can be derived from tests like this
1) The Deus , Racer and CTX are all exceptional machines with unique characteristics
2) Bias and lack of objectivity undermine credibility.

I do wish I had never made those first ctx videos as I had borrowed that detector and didnt have enough education on it. If you notice I took them down. The next time around I bought my own machine did my homework and remade the test video which you will see on my channel now.Alot different than the first videos I shot. Racer 2 and nokta fors core I had are really basic simple detectors not much learning curve except for learning the audio as with any detector. Im not out to set one detector in a way where it will be an unfair test, I will say this I use my money and time to do these videos if someone thinks I dont have credibility dont watch them. If someone thinks im dishonest in my post dont read them .Its really simple I dont get paid by deus havent even ever got a free hat. I will say this again if the ctx ,makro racer 2,nokta fors core or any other detector Ive used outperformed the deus on these test I would be using it and making videos about it. I know test are not perfect and only go so far but my thinking is this if it wont do it in the garden it wont do it in the field

The deus and xp goldmax power were designed to winkle out tiny thin hammered coins over in europe. These coins are often found in highly iron contaminated areas with thousands of years of habitation,so the iron can be horrendous. The power and deus have been the favoured machines over here for getting the job done and are still the best machines for this type of hunting.Get to grips with a deus and there is no better machine for pulling small non ferous targets out of the iron.....it's been proven time and time again on the hardest ancient sites.

All of this is good info but we take it too far sometimes.

I'm not sure if I was the one that got you started on proving the XP Deus was better suited to pulling coins out of the iron infested sites or not. If so, that was not my intention. When I took the Racer 2 to a trash site, I used a small 5" coil to search with. My XP Deus had the 11" coil. Big difference right there. Next issue between the two was operator knowledge. I know I'm not proficient with the XP. Not proficient with Racer 2 either but like you said, it is basically turn on & go. What I did like was that I found coins with the Racer 2 that I had missed with the XP Deus. So I was impressed with the Racer 2. A person who was proficient with the XP might have pulled those coins out of the ground that I missed originally when hunting this trash site.

What we have to remember though is what are we out hunting far. Are we looking for relics, coins, or jewelry? Or perhaps we are out for the enjoyment of getting outdoors & enjoying a little relaxation. Maybe a little exercise (I know I've put on 80 lbs since I started hunting in the 70's).

I don't think it really matters if you have the best detector that money can buy or the cheapest one on the market. Hopefully you will find something with the detector of your choice & enjoy yourself. I know I started detecting 41 years ago & I still enjoy getting outdoors & enjoying the hobby. Right now I'm enjoying turn on & go detectors. I may pick up another Deus later on if finances allow it. But right now all that matters is having fun regardless of the machine I use.

thanx for taking the time to type out that answer/reply. Good inputs that I/we are glad to know your in-field comparisons. Everything you're saying is true. But to my recollection, he tried (or so he said, or so I thought), all the available options. I do recall him getting back home after the "spanking". And he studied forums, instruction manuals, and other more-experienced user's inputs . And he emailed me to say "I should have done such & such" (as if he hadn't exhausted his options).

Based on what you are saying, that is true. It's just that at the time, it sounded like a case of sour grapes, or excuses. But after reading what you're saying, I'll keep my mind open on it :)

The Minelab Exp. II that I was using, as you know, is NOT meant/known for being a ghost-townsy-iron see through machine. On the contrary: It's in the deep-seeker class with TID wonders as its class (for things like turf cherry picking, where it excels). But given the power-house at is , I still find it to be sufficient for *some* ghost-townsy stuff. Yes , not as killer as specialty machines for seeing a coin behind a nail or two.

HOWEVER, the guy using the 305 with small HF coil was blowing us away ! I've had multiple other iron-see-through machines tested at this site (various 2-filter Tesoros, Compass 77b, Compass auto legend, Racer, etc....), and this guy with the 305 + HF was getting easy target after easy target ! Pistol balls, little pieces of lead and copper snippets, etc..... Granted: His depth was probably not astounding (a "given" for such machines that are going to tend to un-mask). So impressed was I, that I ran out and bought a 705 and small HF coil. Thinking that this is basically the same as his 305 with HF. I was never able to replicate this feat. :(

Anyhow, thanx again for taking the time to type out the reply !

thanx for the input sprchng. Yes: We also had a CTX out there in my iron-ridden test spot. And it did not do too well.

I suppose the jury will ALWAYS be out , for ANY machine a person pits/tries against another. Because the proponent can merely say: A) the user wasn't skilled enough. B) the user wasn't having exactly the *right* settings.

Each of which could be very true. But on the other hand: Can become the "eternal out" to which can never be dis-proved. But I'll keep an open mind. Your input is very good !

Some hunters can't really hunt in lots of iron it takes a lot of practice and a good ear and a even better machine. Have gone hunting in places where I walk out with some nice relics and wonder how they were missed

Sataro its just me I do get carried away sometimes but thats just me and my personality an extremist I guess so if I offended anyone please accept my apology . I do care about the facts though because I know as a consumer I have bought and do buy from disscussions ,reviews and videos ,etc. . When I get my racer back from my friend I will give that nel snake coil a workout over at the 1817 house in all that trash and iron and see if I can pull out a coin I missed ,if that happens I will be on here next week talking about how the racer 2 smokes the deus LOL

If anyone wants to hunt in thick iron and chase rusty nails that sound like silver coins by all means drop two grand on a ctx and have at it.:poke: Oh yeah I have been ruled incompetent by the jury so please disregard that statement.
