Does your XP Deus fall over when you set it down to dig? There are several inventive stand designs floating around the various forums, so I thought I would make an attempt at one. I remember a very wise man I used to work with had a neat saying: "To the complicated; there is no limit". So I decided to apply this concept to a very simple design that works great. Of course the first idea that came to mind was to just set the coil flat on the ground; which totally solves the problem. But I didn't go that route.
I took a Charlotte Pipe 3-in diameter PVC Coupling and cut a slice out of it with a band saw; of course, you could do the same thing with a hack saw. The outside diameter of this pipe is the same as the inside diameter of the existing XP Deus stand. I painted it black with Krylon Fusion Paint and attached it with double-sided tape. If it continues to work as well as I think it will, I may glue it permanently later. This design only adds .4 oz to the weight of the XP Deus. Before with the 11" coil and the control unit, my Deus weighed in at 2 lb - 3.1 oz. Now it weighs 2 lb - 3.5 oz. I hope it didn't get to heavy for an all day hunt.
Anyway, I just thought I would pass this on as another example of a modification to a great detector.
