XP Deus Opinions

The other thread was getting lengthy so I thought I would start a new one.

It seems new detectors come on the market a dozen a year and some will have a rush with the "something new and different" hype. Whether the Deus is really better than anything else........ time will tell. Other than the wireless technology, I really don't see any major advances with the Deus that some other high end machines don't already have or not needed to improve detectability.

I predict a year or two from now the Deus will just be another detector on the market and that will depend a lot on the supply, demand, service, distribution, reliability and performance.

I could care less that it is wireless, I would still buy a whites V3i any day of the week.

No I don't think it will be weird if no one goes wireless. The cost and batteries just don't make it worth the trouble. It adds nothing to the detector performance.

The last detector that came out that was truly different and excellent as well was the minelab sovereign. At least on all the detectors Ive used over the years and thats quite a few of them:detecting:

Even the Etrac and Explorers are variations off the Sov.

I don't think I would want to pay the extra money for a TX/RX for every coil that I bought, not that they have a lot to choose from anyway.

i saw a video of the Deus being tested for recovery speed. It was very impressive. Can other detectors out there do the same thing? Probably a couple. If an American distributor ever happens along with a lower price I think people in America would jump all over it. Top performance with top ergonomics is something that just has not happened before.

The only three I know of are the White's V3, V3i and VX3 There might be more that can match on recovery speed though, I'm not up to date on the First Texas line.

The Tec. T2, G2 & the Fisher Gold Bug Pro, have the fastest recovery speed out there. It's at 75

The Deus is faster than my T2/XP Goldmaxx etc but what is rarely mentioned is that there's been no breakthrough or overturning of the rules of physics. The faster you go the less depth you get.

I was really disappointed when it came out and the repeated software and hardware upgrades haven't changed my mind.

Let those who like to have the latest fashion take the plunge and try it on U.S. sites and provide the depth figures.Don't forget the wet sand either.

i and other friends have had a wide selection of all brands of top end machines that they have bought and sold ,but the only one thats a keeper is the DEUS .
when one comes up for sale its soon sold. we dont plan on selling the DEUSs because they are just right for what we want .
i have compared it with my T2 SE and its too close to call ,on my test garden of targets . i have dug henry8 silver coins at great depth with the DEUS and checked them with the T2 SE as well .

no cables is a blessing when getting up and down to dig targets ,so that influences which of my machines i choose for hunting .
lightest weight also means i can keep going longer and basically make more and better finds .
When i go back to the T2 with wired headphones its a damned nuisance thats for sure .

i also use the coil strapped to my trainer boot with tiewraps and no stem ,and just the backphones ,in places where passers by can be a nuisance ,and it means i can work unobtrusively without being hassled ,as once people see a detector stem they become curious and possibly a nuisance .no stem means they dont have a clue whats going on !they think i am just listening to my iphone .people walk by 20 feet away and dont give me a second look .
the control box is on my arm for checking the id signals.
the depth is just as good as when the coil is on the stem .

using this setup i can detect wherever i want without any hassle, it can be used in secrecy

You had a URL to a dealer who is not a sponsor Brian. You have been with us long enough to know that is not allowed.

Before I crown or condemn the Deus I would have to see what it would do in the field going side by side with my Vaquero. Air tests mean nothing to me. I want to see a machine perform in the field under real live hunting conditions. I will say the Deus does seem a bit pricy.

Before I have switched to Deus I have used Tejon for 5 and half years, incredible detector (better than Vaquero) and I still have it as spare, but honestly I have admit that I hardly ever use it now. Deus is better than Tejon, offers precise ID and plenty of adjustments, little weight, without any cables and batteries to carry around.
Paying for Deus you pay for a modern technology.

Going Wireless is all part of progress.

Just watch for the other manufacturers playing catch-up.

I cant wait for Mr Minelab to come out with a new model with the same advanced technologyy that the Deus offers us.

Infact, having used many Minelab models since they first came to the market place and even though I like my Deus I have started saving up for a super lightweight ,cordless Minelab when it arrives. :beers: Jerry.

Just got my Deus with stock coil. As a die hard E-Trac user it will be interesting to see which works in MY conditions (clean farm fields) better...
It is really cool looking and so light weight and easy to swing.
Only time (with field use) will tell....

Good luck with the Deus, Deus GMP factory program with 12 khz and sensitivity 90-95 have been working for me, if you are searching small buttons and also larger coins in iron infested sites.:detecting:

Don't have one.Have read alot and looked at a lot of pics of it.
I like the thought of no wires and as small and being able to pop the control box off and put it on your wrist or on your side.
And it seems to be doing very well.
Outstanding looking unit.

Hello Barryny,
I'm new to this site, stubled upon this while researching the DEUS. I have two E-Tracs now, somewhat new to the machines and hobby. I've VERY interested in hearing back from you regarding your thoughts about how you are liking/not liking the DEUS and how it is comparing to your E-Trac experience. Places I hunt are quite old, for the US anyway, and have years of junk and good things mixed in. Trying to learn the ET on this type of ground has been "interesting", especially in multi conductive. I'm not interested in the weight, but more so on performance(depth, speed, separation) all compared closely to your usages on the ET.

I sincerely appreciate your help and time. Tried to find a way to PM you, but must be b/c I'm new to the site.

thanks,
Randy Kight
