Hey, squirrel1, Thanks!
I have a Deus from Andy Sabisch on the way. Should be here tomorrow!
I'm also going to the Deus boot camp he's putting on in Michigan. I'm stoked just in case you can't tell.

Best of luck

Is there a way to tell pull tabs from gold rings on the Deus?

I attended the xp Deus classroom in Wilkes-Barre Pa. Put on by Andy Sabisch and Todd Yerks. It was great.
Well worth it. Learned alot .

I see you have three of the Minelabs and Deus. How does the Deus stack up against your Minelabs? I have a Minelab XS I started out with when they first came out then went to the SE the the SE Pro.
Are your finds more, less, equal to the Minelabs with the Deus?

The Deus does offer some tone nuance, meaning junk targets can be identified vs coins.
I am not going to say any absolutes here,,but Deus has some good qualities.

As far as comparing to Minelabs,,,IMO the more iron, the better the Deus will show itself off to you.

In mid er ground, Deus can strike coins deeper than Etrac and CTX,,11" coil vs 11" coils.

Deus ID, the way it works, this is where folks get challenged and many of their units because of.

I recommend any Deus user to get some 12, 16 , 20 penny nails,,,a 2" wide rol of tape and some coins, and junk target like bottle caps, pull tabs,
Do some 2 d test sweeping Deus with coins missed with nails, rearranging your scenarios, keep arranging and note Deus tendencies for detection.
And not how settings affect.
Then after the 2d testing , go to 3 d testing by placing coin down in the middle of rol of tape, and place one nail on the edge of the tape giving you a coin 2" below nails scenario
Again sweep scenario and walk around noting how deus behaves.
And adjust your settings.

Pay special note to how using the highest frequency always does the best at detecting these booby trapped situations.
Play with reactivity setting, and silencer setting.
Audio report setting
Disc setting
Try ful tones
Try. 2 tone
Try 3 tone

A whole lot can be leaned about deus by doing on top of the ground tests.

Caution, airtest will reveal a more accurate ID at further distances from the coil,,,,versus targets in ground.
There is some worthy info here on this forum and other forums.

Again good luck.
Btw, if you still have your Minelabs, you can infact use them to locate say a coin, mand use your Deus to compare, hence learn it.
Even changing settings while, over an already Minelab located say coin is a grand idea.
Any ways possible to shorten your learning curve is good.

I can't say i am finding more with the xp yet. I have only been using it for 7 months and still learning. The minelabs i own are great detectors and have found some great finds. I do have to say the xp is fast and works great in trashy ground. The most important factor is learning your detector.

Okay, thanks!
I have found a lot more deep coins with my Explorer XS than I have with my SE Pro. But I haven't had the SE that long. I bought it brand new, unboxed a couple months ago. It's a different animal than the XS.
I can't wait to get my Deus today and learn it.
It seems to me, after watching some videos on the Deus, that there are a lot more settings one can do and therefore a lot more ways one can make wrong settings.

I am getting the 9" coil with the Deus. Do you know roughly how much deeper the 11" coil can get in "normal" soil?
And do you know if the 11" coil is just as good in an iron nail infested yard as the 9" coil?

Overall 9" coil is better performer in heavier iron.

Here's a post on the 11" coil (http://www.findmall.com/read.php?83,1968155)

As far as trashy sites, the 9" is the route to take . . . simple target masking; i.e., how many targets under the coil at the same time. The 11" will work better than other units with an 11" coil but the fast response is what makes teh difference.

Unless I am hunting open areas such as fields or beaches, the 9" LF or elliptical HF coils are the ones that go with me

Andy

Like with any of your other machines, the larger the coil the more targets will be under it (good & bad).
This will effect how deep the coil will see good targets.
How your Deus is setup will also play into how well it will see targets.
The 11" will "see" a bit deeper (inch or two) in clean ground, but the 9" will do better in iron & trash. IMO
I've used both in my ground and find the 9" to be the go to if there is a lot of trash/iron and the 11" for the more open grounds.
The Deus is mainly a tone machine and for some (me) it takes a long time to really get the hang of that.
There is a lot to be learned from the Gurus here. read and watch it all.
Pay close attention at the Bootcamp.
Take your time learning and
Good luck with your new machine
