XP Deus Battery Cost

I am thinking about the purchase of a new XP Deus. Doing my research I wondered about battery replacement. I called Detector Electronics and inquired about the cost. The coil, control unit and headphones all take the same battery. They are each $50.00. The coil must be sent back for them to perform the replacement since the battery is glued in place. They said no one in the US has needed a replacement but that day is coming. That may have been the deal breaker for me to keep my F75 SE. Any thoughts..........

50 bucks included changing it for you, or that is what they told me.......

The guys in UK have several years on theirs.....

I got my new Deus for relic hunting. I'm in VA also. I took it out for 2 hours, then came home and sold my F75SE. I haven't regretted it yet. It's a great machine for relics. I was worried about the coil battery replacement as well, but it's got a five yr warranty, and if it's just $50 after that, I'm good with it. Hope this helps. You can't go wrong with the Deus. Just my 2-cents. HH

You guys were quick with a response....thanks. Everyone tells me how great the Deus is. I just think 50.00 for each battery is very high. I wonder if the cost will come down ?

Hey Virginia digger, how much do you spend on batteries now? That's a sincere question an not being a wise-a$$. If you were to look at the lifetime cost of the two alternatives how much better/worse is one over the other? I honestly don't remember the number of charges XP says their batteries are good for (1 thousand? 5 thousand? I'll look it up later or someone else may know). My guess is that if you're using disposable batteries, you're MUCH better off with the XP Deus. If you use rechargeable, harder to tell. Do you use a wireless headset with your current set-up? How much more did that add? How long will that battery last? Like I said, it feels like a lot of $ when viewed as a lump sum, but think about the lifetime cost. Think of it as buying tires for your car. A necessary maintenance cost -- painful when buying 4 new tires, but the cost per mile is not so bad! :)

I've got one of the first U.S. Deus's straight from the factory January 2011. To date the batteries still give me the same amount of detecting time per charge as they did in the beginning. I suspect I'll get at least another year and 5 years might not be unreasonable.

It's a great detector...no worries on the batteries.

Sweet! Whereabouts are you in VA? I may be able to help you with setting it up for a great start. If you're hunting hot ground, I have no clue. But I can shoot you some settings for mild soil.
