i have a whites xlt metal detector and it does a great job with coins. my problem is that i am missing a lot of gold and silver rings. i am using the original coil that came with the detector. i would like to buy a better coil to use for rings and coins. any help on this would be app. someone said a blue max was best ? I just do not know what will work on my xlt. Also what nr. and size. Also I am thinking of buying a new detector later next year. Is the whites dfx that much better than the xlt ?
Thank You , John

You are not missing the silver rings. They will sing out just like a silver coin depending on the size. The gold rings read much lower, anywhere from +8 or so up to as high as +50 or 55. Just make sure you are accepting those VDI numbers and they will come slowly but surely.

If you aren't nugget or beach hunting then your XLT is as good as the DFX for coins. I personally like my DFX, but it leaves some people frustrated and wondering if they are getting all the good targets. In trashy areas you tend to get complacid and dont dig those targets that might be gold. The smaller coil will help you seperate the targets and slow you down.
