Then, about 10 years ago, it also got a little name change was was still the good ol' XLT.

The Eagle Spectrum was a pre-XLT model. It had a larger control housing, a smaller display screen, and was powered by 4-C cell batteries.

That was replaced by the XLT. The XLT used the smaller control housing with the slide-in 8-AA battery box. The original XLT was called the Spectrum XLT and came out with version 1.0 and then, after a relatively short period, they made a few simple program adjustments and that was version 1.1 which stayed until the end.

Then, the Spectrum XLT, which has also been referred to as the 'Rainbow' version due to the multi-hue rainbow of colors on the side of the control housing and 950 search coil, had a face-lift about 2001. They changed a few models and named them the E-Series, at which time the XLT dropped the multi-color decal, the "Spectrum" reference, and the control housing then showed XLT E-series. It was still the familiar version 1.1, however, and continued to work great!
