I tried using my XLT in a Heavy, heavy trash park today. I had it with me and had a little time too kill.
It was noisy thats for certain.....Found I could hunt in Coins only mode best.Discovered something else I did not know about the XLT.
When hitting multiple targets!. I would hit pinpoint, center a signal, and then, release and pinpoint again. To my surprise I was able to pick out coins.
I used the Standard 9.5" coil because thats all I had to use. After second pinpoint I released the switch and just barely moved the coil.I was able to get 78, 79 and 82 solid reading doing this. No Silver but I did isolate and dig a 1949 Wheat cent and several clad dimes. 1 nickle (20 reading) and
some kind of small round object. Once the good signal was removed I just for the heck of it went back over target area, and all the junk read as before mostly pulltabs...22, 24 26 and even one bottle cap 58-60. I tried this over a dozen times and it worked if there was a coin or some other object other than a pulltab or small Aluminum pieces.Nothing got rid of the target if it was Aluminum.I dug several pieces of this and tested hole again. Did find one new penny after removal of Aluminum signal. I won't say it was real enjoyable, but it proved the XLt with the 9.5" coil can find coins in trashy areas.
I only did this if the meter was jumping around on initial reading and a higher target number came thru...Not all 76-78-79 readings produced a coin.
Some were pulltabs that once out of the ground read anywhere from 24 to 48 depending how it was bent and how dirty it was.In the ground I would get the fleeting higher reading.....of 76-78-79 but no coins proved to be present in some digs. But in many there were.Thought I would pass this on and ask if anyone else ever tried this. Hope this makes sense and you understand what I am trying to say here.
