went out yesterday with my brother in law for about 2 hours, him with a silver eagle and me using the xlt, doing a school I have hunted for three years, it covers a city block, so alot of ground to cover and every corner has given up its goods, well yesterday it gave up the oldest coin from this spot so far, 1st I have to tell u there has been alot of construction going on here and sidewalks have been tore up and replaced I told my brother in law to do the exposed sidewalk as I watched he made a 1/4 pass and moved on so I went over and covered the same area and dug up the seated dime from 1860 called him over to show him what he missed, he was upset but know learned a hard lesson and that is to cover the whole area, also found 4 indian pennies and 1 wheat penny 1919

SO THIS ALL WAS FROM THE TORE UP SIDEWALKS?

this group of coins was from the sidewalk area, the lawns have given up jewelry and lots of other good coins, the hunt is coming to its end as the developments being done will cover this whole city block beyond the years to never be searched again as concrete and parking lots and the new school building will have it covered.

Smart hunting..... Nice coins. Most seem to be in really good shape. :clapping: Congrats. CCH

the picture is of all the coins in uncleaned condition as dug. I usually leave it that way.

i would take a whole day when it gets cooler and really give that site one more shot see if you can save those coins from drowning in the concrete. anyidea how old the school was? from the age of those coins i would think one room school house.

the history says there was a high school on 1 corner where the dime was found, tore down in the 20's to build a grade school built in the mid 20's and now tore down this year while the new school was being built, so the whole block was always school ground,I have been hunting this for 3 years now but the construction is out running me, I plan to give it my best in the next week when I am off work, as the new school opens the 31st of august.I have found lots of cool things from a jr g-man badge to barber, mercury ashield nickle lots of buffalos and indians wheat pennies my 10 year old son even found a 1914-d wheat penny here and made the whites website find of the month earned him a 100 dollar gift certificate, vintage buttons, silver and gold rings.tokens including the early 1900's KKK token, funny thing is no one else has been hunting this area in the 3 years I have been doing this ground, just like to share the story.

my advantage is there are no others, I have been detecting this town for over 10 years and never came across another yet. u just have to love this hobby, I think alot of people have the get rich fast attitude and loose interst fast wether it be cheap detectors, no patience, health problems, or other obligations, I always hope more people play golf and leave everything for me.

Where did you say this school was situated ?
Ah shot I'm too far away to help you:detecting::laugh:

Have detector, xlt also, might travel!!

felt like i was alone in my park for a while then people walking by would tell me they have this detector or that the've seen lots of others detecting. i had seen only one guy walking to the park w/detector over the shoulder and he's the only one and only once. i thought i was pulling too many coins to have anyone else looking. they were too near the surface for even a radio shack detector to not pick up on. then i started seeing signs of someone else. small holes and scrapings and some unfilled holes. especially around the tot-lots. never saw a body though. still gittin coins 2-3" down or 1" even. someone's missing alot. needs better skills or better machine. ya gotta love this hobby.

great finds padett. very encouraging. will be waiting to hear about more of your finds. and glad your boy is in on the hobby.

Been out since 92-93 and many early ones still going strong...heard rumors about them doing away with the model but I doubt it...
